In the Starting Line-Up
Zach becoming a team leader? Yeah, that's going to end well.
Before the game, Wilson was "totally different" than last year and had "renewed confidence." Aside from the media running with info fed to them from Wilson's agent or the Jets, what evidence of this huge improvement was there? Since acquiring Rodgers in April, Wilson was either going to be a backup or dealt to another team. In training camp and the preseason, Rodgers would have been getting the majority of work with the first team. Could it be that Wilson looked sharp in the preseason games? He should, though, considering he was the #2 overall pick with 2 years starting experience playing against backups guys on the roster bubble. It's certainly possible that Wilson was more relaxed since Rodgers would be the starter and all the pressure to direct the offense wasn't on him. I'm not sure that translates to "He'll be great if he has to start some games," though. Of course, this narrative of confidence and improvement went out the window when Wilson actually had to start a regular season game.
