I think it's multi layered.
  • He's going to say something that tips his hand to the press regarding his plans, so say nothing.
  • He knows the fans don't want to hear his platitudes, so stay silent.
  • He knows the team sucks, so don't go out there and castrate his staff. Shut up.
  • He knows he eff'd up on multiple levels, so don't face the music.
Exactly. He sees where this train wreck is heading and he wants to distance himself

I think it's even simpler. He went into this season deciding it was a lost season and was always going to run it back and decided a long time ago he'd have to weather the storm of fans being unhappy this year. So now he's just going radio silent to not give anyone any extra ammo to go after him when he does what he always planned to do.

Slow down, people. The first external coaching hire last year was January 22. The Jets are not compliant with the Rooney Rule right now anyway.

A quote from Kraft in September in the locker room after the Bengals win:

"To all of you, no one outside of this room believed this could happen," Kraft said in the Patriots locker room, as shown on CBS postgame coverage. "And every one of you contributed. I'm so proud of the new players, the new coaches. People had all the excuses it couldn't happen, but you all did it. And I'm spoiled now because I'm going to plan on a lot more of these."

Will he? His entire system in Tenn was run Henry into the ground...I have no idea why people want Vrabel so bad.
If Marcus Marriota, Ryan Tannehill and Will Levis were your Qbs what would you do?

Vrabel won until the GM stopped drafting good players, Brown was traded, Tanny got old, and Amy Strunk got cheap.

After saying that no wonder he's staying in the owners box drinking his Dasini....

Hard pass on Vrabel here. Don’t think he fits. We can do better.

So you are telling me he can't elevate subpar players? So why would we want him?

Here's a hint Jarod Mayo.

Fire everyone (Wolf on down), or fire no one (maybe positional coaches)....the only two real choices, anything else is a partial measure.

And that's short sighted. Don't rush to make a second mistake because you already made one. Do what it takes to get it right. This is how desperate franchises stay bad.

Given your stance on Players>coach you're being extremely hypocritical if you don't think Mayo deserves another year.

  • I Don't Agree
Reactions: sb1
Personally I don't care. The Patriots if the fire Mayo, need a full house cleaning and a real evaluation of the team and search. Flipping Mayo for Vrabel is not the golden carrot desperate fans think it is. There's bigger problems and they have to get it right or we are stuck for several years.

I agree with Breer on this. The Patriots are better off doing full scale search and going through a real process even if it costs them Vrabel over just half assing it and going for a quick fix and not changing the real problems.
If they fire Mayo, then unless Kraft gave one of his assistants another successor clause, they must do a Rooney rule-compliant search (which requires two interviews with external minority candidates).

The JETE too, no?

Having to comply with the Rooney rule is not a full search. It just means you need to interview 2 minority candidates. They could very easily decide on someone like Vrabel, bring a filler interview in to comply and check a box, and then hire Vrabel.

That's not what this team needs.

It would really upset me if we dont get vrabel

I'm saying he maximized the talent he had, used it appropriately, and got production to it's potential.

What would you do. Have Tanny throw it 700 times?

I assume what people mean when they say "full scale search" is to interview more people than their chosen guy (Vrabel) plus two minority candidates - instead, also interview at least several additional qualified candidates to get a full picture of their options.
