All kidding aside, I do hate this weather after about 5 minutes (it looks glorious when it happens but digging out and then trying to avoid killing yourself on the ice for three months stinks), but for me, when winter changes to spring, it is the most amazing feeling. All of a sudden driving around at the end of April, beginning of May, when everything is bright green and in bloom - wow! Lifts my spirits so much every year! I would miss that if I moved to FL or somewhere else warm all the time. I also absolutely love the ocean, any time, anywhere. So calming (or at these times, so powerful).

Winter is the price of admission we pay for:

The first thing I shovel snow off is the grill on my deck. I usually shovel a path so I can move the grill closer to the door also.

Give me a couple of glasses of a good red wine to go with the perfectly cooked steak off the grill and I'm good.

Do you use a propane burning grill during the winter? I gave it a shot a few weeks ago and it seemed like the grill didn't get up to temp properly.

I use my grill in the winter. If you are doing some fancy cooking, propane grilling when its -2 below outside and windy does mess up the heat.

Sometimes I'll sear meat first then cook on the grill with a low heat but it takes longer but it'll cook a little more evenly..

Lately I just sous vide everything and have experimented with a grill for finishing. Trying to get a good sear on nicely cooked meat with my propane grill when it was ~20's was a big fail.

Yea searing on the grill is no-go in this ice age crap

It is insane for anyone to argue that it's better to live in New England that FL on a day like this.
I just got in from a brisk (to put it mildly) walk ... Will have a fire going full bore in the fireplace a bit later and have some left-over eggnog from the holidays. The snow is piling up outside and it's cozy in here. I think that's a bit more special than whatever today is like in over-paved ersatz Florida.

I used to think Florida was the comp to New England, until I got stationed in Arizona.

Yeah, yeah, but it's a dry heat...

The upside for me is the outdoorsy nature of the state. I spent plenty of weekends off-roading and wandering this sierra or that sierra. I'll admit that Phoenix isn't a top notch cultural hub unless clubbing is your deal (I'd argue Tucson is the better cultural hub, which is maybe why New Englanders tend to move there), but I'm thinking of relocating to the Sedona area when I'm said and done. Much milder temperatures, amazing scenery, no humidity, and if I really REALLY want a beach, I'm about a 5-6 hour drive from Malibu. Or a 2.5 hour drive from Lake Havasu, and also Vegas. In the winter, I'm 45 minutes from snow cover in Flagstaff and 90 minutes from 75F degree weather in Phoenix.

My evil plan is to have two homes anyway; one in Arizona and one on the east coast (likely Virginia; possibly Maine) and drive between them every 6-8 months or so. It's the best of both worlds.

I've never had a problem with my propane grill. Usually it gets too hot if I put it up all the way.

I've never felt more cold than being outside and wet when it's just above freezing. A game 12/29/2013 where LG trounced the Bills for 189 yards and 2 TD's was just like that ~ 30's and steady rain.

Worse was being on a ski mountain during a race. Racing combined with the weather ensured that you were totally soaked and unable to get warm for a long stretch of time. I'd have greatly preferred to have had it be 10 degrees colder to get snow instead of freezing rain.
