I don’t think it’s been stated.

With regards to Patriots coaches, for the older folks here **** McPherson. 8-24. With the infamous game where he did not know what ths score was...
Still a better win pct than Mayo even with today’s pointless win lol

The only Pats coach to finish with a worse career win percentage than Mayo is Rod Rust

Owners have every legal right to make a call to pull their franchise player in a pointless game to protect their long term investment. Would it be scrutinized, probably. Would the league be able to penalize it, not at all. Why don’t think the spread was only 2.5 before the start of the game.
Of course. Do you have an issue with Melrose Place?

I walked away from the board for 2 hours to do some chores after the game annoyed at what happened at the game, and was completely pleasantly surprised to see this when I got back. I hate cheering a guy losing his job and livelihood, but he just wasn’t good and needed to go. Kudos to Kraft for sucking up and admitting his mistake and moving on. I didn’t think he had it in him.

I’m one of those who’d be very happy with a Vrabel hire, but regardless, I want a full thorough search this time. Not a pre-anointed decision. Interview 4-5 people qualified for the position, and may the best guy win, and if Vrabel gets the job that way, great.

By all accounts Ben Johnson is highly respected by his peers and has a strong network of fellow staffers whom respect him. Let’s not forget his track record with results.

Mayo had players whom liked him, and zip when it came to coaches and staffers.
I’m leaning Vrabel but Ben Johnson is close behind
I like both

Johnson has been in Detroit since before Campbell, so he has witnessed the makeover of the franchise.
Johnson was brought to Detroit by………..Matt Patrica.
He worked under Darrell Bevell and Anthony Lynn before becoming OC.
Before Detroit he spent 6 years in Miami under Philbin and Gase and a lot of OCs.
So he has 12 years in the NFL working with 4 different HCs and a number of OCs and multitudes of assistants. There should be no issue with him having connections.

There is zero reason to fire him 1 hour after the game. There is a reason it's called Black Monday and not Black Sunday.
Why does it make a difference?

McPherson looked, and often acted, like Coach from Cheers.

Coaches best line:

Crowd : Let’s hang him in effigy
Coach: to hell with that let’s hang him right here in Boston

It appears they decided before today to fire him, what's the purpose of waiting a day? HC prospects already are interviewing elsewhere, that brings its own sense of urgency.

Mayo will get whatever his contract dictates. He failed to meet minimum expectations, there's no use trying to spare feelings in a case like this.

Mayo knew he was a lame duck going into today and stuck it to the pats. I have no sympathy for him that Kraft didn’t wait until tomorrow.

While I do agree with this as it's pretty obvious now, it's pretty lame they told him before hand allowing him the opportunity to **** us over. Which he did.

I actually think that guy got kind of a raw deal here. People forget- he got sick. Dante had to coach the team for a few games at one point. He might not have been a great x and o guy or even a great coach BUT he was an excitable guy and his players really reflected that and played hard for him at times, with a lot of exuberance.

Not sure how he got a raw deal. He didn’t deserve the job, was way over his head and was rightfully fired.
