I have a feeling they told him to lose and he went ahead and won anyways. That’s why he was so cheerful (unlike Any other game this year) throughout the game. And hence why the Krafts looked so pissed and miserable in their box throughout the game, and at the end of the day why they did the unprecedented and fired him right after the game and not tomorrow.

I hope he has a hard time getting a HS coaching gig. Something he might have the qualifications for, but im not even sure of that.

They had every reason to fire him last week. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know he was gonna do everything he could to win this game to feed nothing more than his own big ego and sail off giving the organization the middle finger. If any Patriots fans still have a mayo jersey, they should burn it tonight.

It makes no sense they would order him to lose vs. a team playing second- and third-stringers. If the Bills needed that game it could have been a different story, but it was in THEIR best interest to see the Patriots -- a division rival -- actually win and miss out on that first pick. Plus, as I've already pointed out, nobody counted on Milton playing like he did. It ended up being a preseason game that was up for grabs regardless of what the coaches did.

They didn't tell him to lose.

Ridiculous.
Of course they didn’t tell him directly!

It’s as simple as a small conversation that goes along the lines of this.

“Hey Jarrod, how’s the game plan coming along? I hope it’s going well, BIG game this week. Look I hope we win, but worse case we lose and we get the number one pick. So if anything that would probably help the our team long term. Don’t over stress it, just keep doing what you’ve been doing all season long”

Along with a harder than normal handshake and a stern look in the eyes.

You don’t become a billionaire without knowing how to have a conversation that tiptoes the lines of legality and leaves you with a lot of plausible deniability.

Hate to break it to you Tune, we’re still not taking one of your beloved big boys before the 3rd round.

If they told him to lose, wouldn’t the league take a dim view of that?

play calling decides games, Mayo was not holding back, he wanted the win to screw the Pats.

Everybody knows what everybody wants.

And the coaching staff and players out there are expected to try their hardest to win.

Mayo was clearly getting fired.

Kraft isn't wink winking at Mayo in that situation to throw the game.

New Curran is up. He's not defending Mayo. Praising the Krafts for being decisive.

Well yeah no reason to defend his source after his source is fired and no longer any use to him. Now he needs to suck up to the Krafts even harder

"Beloved" is an odd choice of words. The team's biggest need is OL, we'll see if your crystal ball is a mirage come April.

Top offseason needs:
-WR1
-LT
-DE
-FS
-CB2
-LB

Nice thing is they can probably plug a lot of this in free agency with a respectable coaching program. Putting down a projection on their first year cap hits here

-WR1 $20M
-LT $10M? (Depends on who is out there)
-DE $10M
-FS $6M
-CB2 $6M
-LB $8M
Total $60M, only around a third of their 2025 cap space

Execution decides games. Mayo was playing reserves as well, you can't tell players to just lie down.

If you want a guard with the 4th pick then so be it. Cause that’s all that’s out there buddy. I’d be completely onboard with your desires if there were a Joe Thomas or even a Penix, but the simple fact is, there’s not even close to that level of OT where we’ll be picking, and no team is trading up and giving anything worth while to trade back. Maybe we could trade that pick to get a top OT worthy of the number 4 pick, but that’s an even bigger dream.

Simply put they blew it today.
