I'd rather not just go grab old Patriots guys just because they are familiar. Flores was a headcase who berated his QB and was rightfully fired after it. Vrabel won a few years, but wanted more control of the org and rubbed people the wrong way then watched his team fall apart once he know longer was fielding an all star squad.

The Patriots need to prepare for the next era and do a real comprehensive coaching search and put in a modern front office. Looking back is just not going to help us compete in a modern NFL.

It really speaks to Jerod’s lack of character. He should have done what was right for the team, but he screwed them in his last act, out of spite. Kraft, enraged, fires him immediately. Hopefully he’s learned to leave sentimentality aside when making decisions about the Patriots.

Nah this is on Kraft. He should have fired him earlier if he was going to just do it right after the game. Mayo had no incentive to lose if he knew he was a lame duck and probably wants his final game to be on a good note.

Generally when an HC is fired, the coordinators are gone too 99.9% of the time

I am not the biggest Vrabel fan and in more in the offensive minded HC but at this point I would take an experienced coach over a first time HC again

The more I think about it, Gruden is the guy. I know he said some really ****ed up stuff over email but he’s a proven winner who can develop QBs. I don’t see how Kraft doesn’t at least ping him for an interview.

He's not a 'proven' winner. He had more losing seasons than winning seasons. He had more seasons with a bottom 10 offense than a top ten offense. He hasn't been to the playoffs since 2007. The guy is a dinosaur.

Bob said that he was afraid that when Mayo was interviewing for HC positions 2 years ago they were going to lose him.

This is the level of evaluation abilities in Foxboro right now.

The Patriots ownership MUST step out of all football decisions. They STILL don't have a clue what they are doing. The fact that Kraft wrote that in tonight's message tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about how the organization is run.

Rather than feel a little less confident about one's football evaluation abilities, he explained what he did as though it was a perfectly reasonable and rational process that failed only because another person (Mayo) did not live up to the billing.

There was no introspection whatsoever.

The Patriots need a GM and a new personnel guy, and hopefully they will all arrive as a team with the new Head Coach.

I want an offensive minded head coach. I want a guy who can help develop Maye and be around for the long haul. Not having to cycle through OC's every 3 years when they get a HC job.
