James Harrison officially signs with Pats

By the way, with the post-season coming, whatever he's got in the tank, you know as well as I do that Matt Patricia and Ernie Adams have him wired up to a fMRI as we speak, in a voluntary enhanced dream-state coma, with a point-cloud Tom Brady running left to right across his visual cortex. When he wakes up it's time for film study, still in the fMRI whirring donut, generating engrams for every Stillers defensive set and every word of terminology. And it's not just defense: He's practiced against the Stillers offense for 10 years. Whatever he recognizes, we're downloading. Every word of trash-talk that works on Rothlisberger is being drawn out of him, things he doesn't even know he knows.

Yes, Stillers Nation, as you (and James Harrison) sleep, we are extracting 10 years of quick-twitch Patriots-specific trained reflexes from your boy, and everything football-related that's ever been encoded from working memory over to long-term memory. We know the Polamolecules in your shampoo. We know whatever James Harrison knows.

And this isn't just the sort of thing that some yob like Wes Welker has blended in with besotted waitress fantasies, being told around the campfire to an anoxic coaching staff in the mountains. This is the combined brain trusts from Harvard, MIT, places like that, rented until such time as their services are no longer required, and every piece of equipment that their bent little hearts desire.

First we're inserting engrams into retired JETEs, then, moving up the evolutionary ladder, into lab rats. Finally they'll be transferred directly into practice squad replicants -- trained to demonstrate Stillers schemes and techniques on the field, and of course -- along with Harrison -- teach these concepts at the blackboard.

Yes, that includes your precious "signs," and my sincerest apologies for that unfortunate byproduct of the Harrison Downloads. Since we have all learned that there's no rule against stealing signs -- only about where a camera can be placed in the stadium -- I'm afraid there's not much to be done about it, short of considering every member of opposing teams to be cameras. Quelle domage, Mr. Tomlin.

I'm sure Patricia's team of intel community veterans are also using more traditional techniques to score Harrison's intimate familiarity with everything Tomlin does and every aspect of Stillers culture, things you never hear about outside that locker room. Since he wants to talk, it's a comparatively light lift.

Oh yeah, and it is also good to have another veteran linebacker on the team.

Somebody who goes to Steelers boards, please link to this post... or copy and paste.

Pats fans have known for a long time that the Pats pretty much do what everybody else does, just better. But you don't need an fMRI to know the fantasy world that other fan-bases live in.

Stillers fans, we know you believe every word just written above. We know you'll stay up at night worried about it.

You should be, even if it's just a matter of BB & co. debriefing a motivated James Harrison about how the Stillers play the Pats, and how to play the Stillers through 12/26/17.

But I'm sure Mike Tomlin's capable of installing a totally new offense and defense in the next few weeks, something that doesn't draw on the last 10 years' work.

You. guys. are. f****ed.

Might be kind of a respect/ cover your ass thing...Can't see anyone claiming him on waivers, for fear he might not wanna be there...he's earned the right to choose his team. Just my opinion.
Good point. Hadn't thought about that as a possibility.

My stomach turns while reading any of DuhFoe's posts.

Maybe we should call back Tim Tebow instead. Oh that's right, he'll only play quarterback.

So far, I've found the papering-over ESPN account: Assault charges filed, dropped after he went to anger management, story from 2009... And of course, per sports media practice, accompanied by "everything he's had to overcome."

Prep-To-Pro: James Harrison

I don't know.

It seems like a linebacker who's had past problems with controlling anger.

That's a rare conundrum for NFL linebackers. I don't know what to do with that information, since NFL linebackers are typically known for their caring humanitarian good works. Ray Nitschke's work with the poor of Calcutta comes to mind, as does Hacksaw Reynolds' animal hospital, in which he served as a human buffet for blood-sucking insects on the mend, if it helped alleviate their suffering.

Maybe he is a double agent, designed to sabotage the Pats because the frustrated Steelers have not been able to beat them in years....

How anyone could not be okay with this signing is absolutely mind boggling. Thankfully, it's just the usual idiots making the most noise against it.

Here’s hoping Harrison is more Ayers than S Jackson.

I still think it's weird why BB didn't sign Ayers when he was available.

I'm not a big PFF guy but every nerd stat I look at which I incorporate into an overall analysis says Harrison can still get after the QB and set the edge.

With that said I still have my doubts. Hope I'm wrong.

Not only did BB piss off the Steelers, but he did the double whammy and pissed of Alex Guerrero as well... not much pliability here.

Yes. She was strongly against signing players who beat women and low character guys. Kraft may as well have pissed on her grave. There have been several signings like this since she died. Not to mention the 30 year old gold digger he was running around with while Myra's corpse was still warm. You need this explained to you? Have you been a Pats fan for more than a month?
You are correct. I misinterpreted your intent and assumed you meant something other than what you wrote. I apologize for putting words in your mouth.
Thanks, and I genuinely credit you for apologizing and acknowledging your error. It's a rare trait. Look, I believe very few people are unmoved by domestic violence. Many, many families, including mine, have been touched by it in some way. I consider it among the most despicable, gutless offenses possible. But, the reality is that the NFL is populated by scores, if not hundreds, of guys who are not choir boys, to quote Bill Parcells. If anyone expects that a successful team of 53 players, plus a practice squad of 10, or so, can be constructed without having some guys with spotty histories, that person is delusional. Frankly, arrest records and other such data, show that the Patriots (not withstanding Aaron H.) do better in this department than most, if not all, NFL teams.

Depending on what you think Harrison has left (I'm skeptical) BB is basically saying Harrison > Trevor Reilly.

That is a no brainier.

I'm willing to bet Harrison is incredibly flexible.

Hope we get Reilly back onto the PS or on a futures contract next week.

It's not about what he has left, but that he is a savvy, wily veteran who can really help with play recognition up front. He's been here since long enough to know what's coming and to take the burden of identifying away from the youngsters and let them focus on making plays.

You can bet that we will manage him wisely- he won't be an every snap player, but he'll be on the downs where we need multiple pressure.

He'll also be a huge benefit in helping to groom the linebacker group- especially Roberts who is still a hit or miss sort of player.

Exactly.

Additionally, in the playoffs the veteran experience is a desirable quality. Harrison has that in spades.

I think that even though the first playoff game is 3 weeks away on some level we are now in a race against time for MP/BB to actually get to know James Harrison the football player.

Yes, we have many years of gametape but having him on the practice field for a week will give you more insight than those game tapes ever could. (Which is why the joint practices in pre-season are so interesting with respect to trades or signing players).

Once they know what he still can and can't do, which schemes/calls he understands and which he doesnt ect. I am very confident they will find a great place for him situationally.

However, they have essentially this week to do most of that because there is no real practice during BYE weeks and then the gameplan for the first playoff game has to already be formulated.
