I'd give him a chance at... Waterboy. I hear that position is quite vital during the offseason. I'd cut him when the real season starts though. Looking only for 'rare' athletes to serve nutritious H2O.

If the Pats can bring in Chris Redman for a look, they could bring in Russell for a look as well. It doesn't hurt to evaluate someone based on what work he has been putting in on his own. Then I would give him a test and see if he is literate.

That is what I would be willing to do and see if he can be a NFL player again.

It would kind of be like when the Raiders got Plunkett from us for nothing.

There is no harm in taking a look and bringing him in for a week for an assessment.
I wouldn't call Pete Brock, Tim Fox, Raymond Clayborn and Horace Ivory "nothing." And Plunkett was traded for those picks to SF, not Oakland.

Dude.

Get a clue.

Seriously.

I wonder if he might have to go to the CFL for a bit before the NFL teams will give him another shot.

Good idea. Warren Moon and Kurt Warner both did pretty darn well in the NFL after a stint in the CFL. If he's serious he would do something like this, but after all the money the Raiders pissed down the drain on him, no serious operation will consider him, which does, of course, always leave the Jets...

If I'm the Patriots there's absolutely no point in bringing in another QB. If I'm say... the Jets or some other garbage team with no real quarterback, I would give him a chance to compete.

What's to lose? I mean, if he can play, and you other best option is say... Butt fumble, then I would start Jamarcus "The Lean" Russell. Why not.

The problem with Russell is that he never showed any ability to read defenses, and his accuracy was very poor as a pro. So the only thing he's really bringing to the table is a big arm, and we have one of those on the bench already.

On the other hand, a guy I think is worth taking a chance on is Vince Young. He's won in the NFL before and has a pretty solid skillset -- he just hasn't hit bottom yet and still needs to do some growing up. Put him on a team with a good defense and a good offensive line, and he can be a winning quarterback. I'm really surprised nobody has picked him up.

Hey man - did you really need to act like that with your post? There is one thing to belittle a poster because they had a point of view that you didn't want to share and then to take the tact that you thought was appropriate.

As for the history of the Plunkett trade, thank you for the recollection of the picks that they got from the Niners.

I'm all for second chances if someone is refocused, but he wouldn't be appropriate to take up a whole NFL roster spot as such a big question mark.

His best bet might be to actually go play in another football league, shine there for a season or two, and then come back to the NFL after having proven success and determination somewhere else.

Yeah maybe the arena football league. LOL
Wait a sec, are they still doing the Lingerie Bowl?
Maybe he could .... Naah he would probably still get cut!

The only way he's gonna be at Gillette Stadium on game day is if he buys a ticket.

This thread is really showing the true colors of a lot of you and for the record, I am glad that the Patriots did not take this form of attitude to prospective players that they could evaluate, including pick number 199.

It is this type of close-mindedness that has a lot of people thinking that Patriots fans are arrogant and ignorant.

And - that includes long-time fans of the Patriots listening to stuff like this from a 25-year-old.

Losing 60 pounds is no laughing matter. He seems determined to make a comeback, would you give him a second chance? He's only turns 28 in August remember.

OK, so if I vote the second option meaning he's terrible, I would also have to vote that you are dumb. That may be againts forum rules so I won't vote.

If I were the Jets GM the answer would be hell yes. Then again I'd give my UPS guy a tryout if I were the Jets GM

I vote, this as the douchiest post of the month.

I actually agree with this.

1. We are not talking about a player that hasn't had a shot. I think what he's capable of was made pretty clear pretty early on. He's not an NFL starter, certainly not one that will win any games if a team is desperate enough to try it. That's not arrogance, that's the opinion of most people that have ever watched a football game.

2. I'm not sure at all what the age of anyone has to do with seeing this situation for what it is

3. How dare you even try to draw a comparison between TB12 and Russell.

Anyone voting No is an idiot. Seriously.

If he can play, cool. If he can't, cut him. What the heck do you lose for kicking the tires?

I did not say sign him to guaranteed money, you morons.

Well, the reason why you would not bring him in j s because you can only bring in 90 players. He would be at the expense of some ther plauer worth looking at...and I imagine anybody is worth looking at more than this guy

Dude, are you drunk or do you want to see Russell in lingerie?
