Punky = Mac Jones??

No, McMilfson. You haven't been paying much attention the last two years.

Short term not good for the Pats. I think the Bills are still he best in the division, but the Phins and JETE upgraded well this off-season and will both push for a playoff spot.

The Pats are in the picture, but playoffs just got a lot tougher. We gotta split with NY and Miami which likely means having to win at home. They better be ready game 1 because this isn’t a talented enough team to make September a figure it out month.

Long term this puts the JETE back. They’ll be out looking for their QB again in a few years. The window is small and the AFC will be a beast to get through.

I still believe in Lamar as a difference maker and someone who could bring instant hope to a team that is currently at the bottom of the fish bowl.
LJ would instantly make the Patriots contenders this year. Why BB and Kraft do not pull the trigger is beyond me.
LJ makes everyone better on the offense immediately and brings swagger, personality and playmaking ability to a team that has none.
The cost? Mac Jones, the 14th pick this year and a 2nd rounder next year (because Mac Jones is included).
250 for 5 years guaranteed, so what. Add in some voidable years and the contract is doable (see Jalen Hurts)

It takes balls and a willingness to take on some risk to do this. Best possible outcome for this team....
LOL we have to give them an extra pick to make up for giving them Mac Jones you're saying? That's funny.

LJ does this, LJ does that, the boogeyman checks under the bed for LJ.

I mean, yeah, the Ravens would not have gone to all those Super Bowls without him. Wait, they didn't. But I get what you're saying, add LJ and you immediately add 17 TDs and 2,242 passing yards from a QB, instead of 2,997 yards and 14 TDs.

Wait.

Ok, Mac had a crap year last year, but LJ topped his 2022 passing yard total once over his whole career.

Why do you even want this guy? He's not a QB. At least with Mac we can hope that there's something wrong w/last season's scheme/coaching. With LJ, the same kind of numbers are what it says on the tin. Are we supposed to be talking him up for the Hall of Fame because her can call his own number and run? Who cares. We have one of the more successful run games in the league. And don't you dare tell me the very threat of him taking off running makes him a more effective passer. More effective than what? You want to give a guy 250m for 5 years, trade the guy we drafted on purpose to actually play QB. then give up some other stash of draft picks for that?

Do you guys even look at LJ's stats when you go on these crusades?

"It takes balls and a willingness to take on some risk"... when you say that, at least leave ONE chamber empty. Jeebus.

I appreciate your response, but I have to say it is hard to take you at face value, your posting history says otherwise. Almost everything BB does is met with a negative view. You have too many posts of that ilk to convince me otherwise. However, if you start seeing the some of the positive views to BB's decisions, and posting about them, I will consider taking you for your word.
Does this help?...
March 10:
Rodgers is a nauseating personality but I think he still has enough skill left to help some teams. NYJ being one of them. I think an argument could be made that it makes sense for Belichick to pursue Rodgers as well.
I've said consistently from the start that while I don't like Rodgers on a personal level, I think he's still good enough to put an otherwise good team over the top. He would have helped the Patriots and in the process of getting him here we would have completely screwed the Jets who put themselves in a Rodgers or bust situation. Their gamble paid off. They will contend for the division in 2023 at least. The Patriots will not. And the reason is the quarterbacks.

Mac needs be on the hot seat this upcoming season. This will be the ultimate test for him, he needs to outplay Allen,Rogers and Tua. If he can't then he shouldn't have a future as the starting QB for this team.

Best case scenario for the Patriots is a 2-4 division record. That probably means they'll need to go 8-3 vs the rest of their schedule. NOT HAPPENING. They are losing these 3 games for sure... KAN, PHI, & @DAL. That means they'll have to run the table of LAC, WAS, PIT, NOR, @DEN, @NYG, @LVR, @IND... good luck.

If Tua stays healthy then BUF, NYJ, & MIA will battle it out for the division (with favorable odds in that order). I consider BUF a SB contender. I can see NYJ in the playoffs but I don't see them making it to the SB. MIA's pass defense was a major problem for them last season so we'll see how much Ramsey has left in the tank. Ultimately I don't think any AFC division will have more than two playoff teams (with the East, North, & West each having two) with MIA likely being left out.

All three?? Mac "needs" to outplay Allen, Rodgers, and Tua?... and here I am thinking I'm setting the bar high with Mac leading the team to 8 or 9 wins.

Well I can't make predictions on a game by game basis over the next season. There's too many variables.

However it's pretty clear that as of today, the Patriots have the worst QB in the division - if we stick with Mac Jones/Zappe as our QB.

Josh Allen, Rodgers, and Tua are all better. And even if you don't like Tua that much, his weapons are so far superior with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, that it clearly puts him head and shoulders above what we're slated to put out there offensively in 2023.

So let's say we can squeeze out 2 out of 6 division wins, to make the playoffs we're going to need between 10-11 wins. That means we need 8-9 wins in our remaining 11. If we can go .500 in the division, again unlikely given the talent disparity at QB, then we only need 7-8 wins against the rest of the League. Again it all feels like a tall order when the QB position feels completely unsettled and we have a clear 'I don't back my QB' vibe from BB whenever he's asked about Mac Jones.

It feels like we are at the precipice of a new era. This is a huge draft for us, that could make or break the Patriots future depending on how it pans out. If BB goes BIG and moves up for a brand new QB, he buys himself a few years to 'groom' his QB of the future. If he doesn't and Mac Jones/Zappe flame out, BB might be out of a job a lot sooner than you think!

Kraft's patience is not infinite and he has been hinting at wanting to make some changes. I don't necessarily feel like BB needs to be fired IF, and here's the caveat, he is finally willing to cede his GM duties to someone else who can do better 'grocery shopping'. As I've said before, and as we've seen over the past decade of bad drafting, BB the GM has been sabotaging BB the Head Coach.

Ian said it was clever.

Ian is magnanimous to a fault.

Aside from that, you look like a tool using them on anything but a Chiefs site.

Disagree. . Lamar passes the eyeball test with flying colors, Mac does not. He makes the running game virtually unstoppable which opens up the passing game.
Watch LJ next year with Odell, Hopkins and Andrews....you will come around when they are in the AFC championship game, while us Patriots fans are sitting around talking once again which QB we should draft in April 2025.

What's weird about that press conference: Saleh didn't say a single word and not one question was asked about McMilfson. Also, Rodgers predictably projects himself as everyone's equal. It's hard to imagine him being disciplined or told "no" by anyone. I suspect Saleh will be completely hands off, leaving the offense to Rodgers and Hackett.

Off the table? You have it backwards now... the guaranteed wins have flipped in the wrong direction. Take the quarterbacks out of it, the Jets are the better team. And now they have the MUCH BETTER quarterback too.

The Jets are NOT a much better "TEAM". You're sniffing too much wood glue there.

We haven't even had the draft yet, never mind training camp. Chill out with the negativity. Injuries and a multitude of other things can still happen, including picking up players that become cap causalities.

Patriots will not win more than 7 games this year. We now have the toughest schedule in the NFL in the toughest division in football. Knowing Bill we will not be picking at 14 and it will not be a WR, sorry. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks... Sad long year coming, but that is my opinion.

WR is NOT a priority. Maybe try paying attention to the roster and coaches.
No. The Pats don't have the "toughest schedule" and are NOT in the "Toughest" division.

It's always so ridiculous when supposedly intelligent posters completely ignore facts to post opinions that have little to no foundation.

They are doing cartwheels at ESPN...

What the actual ****?! That was uncomfortably weird. What the hell is Rex Ryan even doing there? He was talking like he’s some all-time great, ring of honor Jets legend. I know the news cycle is slow, but my goodness. Is their really that many Jets fans out there?!

The more you say it, the more you cope. I do know since Brady left, the patriots are mediocre. The coach is still the same, right?

More nonsensical crap from you. All you know is what your fantasy points tell you. You know Jack about the actual game.

The Pats defense was excellent last season. The offense, not so much. The offense will be better this year (barring injuries) .

Just wow the troll dance here is amazing to watch!
