Is this why Jonathan Jones fired his agent?

I was higher on Jones last year than I am this year. I felt like his 2018 season was a bit more inconsistent than his 2017 season. I'd like to see Dawson play and consider resigning Jason McCourty.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jones, just did not feel like he played great in 2018 and the Patriots drafted a slot CB in the 2nd round last year.

If he can cover Tyreek Hill, we need to keep him. Mahomes, Hill and KC will be our biggest challengers at the end of TB12's career

I'll put this out here from the Super Bowl (emphasis added):

"The New England secondary had a fun wrinkle
The Patriots decided to play Jonathan Jones as a safety in order to let Patrick Chung play closer to the line of scrimmage. That allowed Chung to cover the running back, while Jones covered the tight ends down the field at various times. Jones played 64 of a possible 65 snaps, joining Jason McCourty (65 snaps), Devin McCourty (65), and Stephon Gilmore (65) as the defensive backs most frequently on the field.

Chung played 26 snaps prior to his injury, which opened the door for J.C. Jackson (29 snaps) and Duron Harmon (27 snaps) to have more playing time. The loss of Chung also forced the other players to shift their roles around, as Harmon played the deep safety and Jones moved into the slot."

I guess I didn't watch the game very closely. I would've guessed Jones and Jackson's snap counts would've been flipped and couldn't have told you that Jones basically played almost every defensive snap.

I like Jones a lot. Possible McCourty replacement at safety.

They look like the 2 year dynasty that Seattle had to me. Once Mahomes gets the 200M deal they are toast.

I hope the Patriots sign him to a long term deal. There is a very noticeable drop when he is not on the field. 4 years 20mil ?
He was HUGE loss in 2017, definitely would've been a big help vs the Eagles in the SB last year. I always said, besides losing Hightower and Edelman in 2017, losing Jones was the 3rd biggest loss.

I’d like to see what we have in Dawson before making that kind of offer.

And when do you figure that we'll know what we have in Dawson? Surely not until mid-season.

Not sure what is trying to be said in the OP but he hired the agency that reps the McCourtys and Harmon

D. McCourty and Harmon got 2nd deals from the Pats. So he has hired an agency that has done deals with the Pats. Would suggest his ideal preference would be to stay with the Pats.

I love their secondary as it is. Time to draft some safeties but they are good for 2019.

We may consider this reasonable. However, why should Jones have such little faith in himself? The tender is higher than this. He should expect more as a free agent next year, IF he performs.
Hes a CB4 here. If he can get more in the market so be it.

He is coming into his own I don't think that's too much for him he took care of Tyreek Hill and has always been our best slot corner.
5 million would be a good deal for us he can get between 7 to 8 on the open market im sure.

He was great to Tyreek but he had help. It's not like he was left on an island with him.

I love the kid if they plan on paying him $5m AAV then Jason will not return. Way too much money.

Call him CB4 if you wish. It's not the label that's important. The question is how valuable he is to the defense. Since we had 3 CB's ahead of him, 3 top S's and everyone healthy, surely we wouldn't expect to see him on the field much in the Super Bowl.

He played almost every single snap in the Super Bowl. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point?

I just did.

Value is CB4.

Tony played almost every snap in the SB for a defense that did very well.

He may be worth more than the price for a CB4 on the market.
