Is this the end of a potential Chiefs dynasty?

I don't know why everyone is killing Mahomes. Yes he didn't play well yesterday but is there a team in the league that wouldn't take him as their QB right now?
Honestly, I would not want him over Allen or Burrow right now. Way too much hero ball and off platform non-sense. There is a legitimate concern that his confidence is shaken permanently.

For comparison:

Gronk Jules 2013-2018

2013 Gronk IR
2016 Gronk IR
2017 Edelman IR

Kelce Tyreek 2017-2021

Healthy all five seasons & the four with Mahomes

They’ve had good injury luck. Kelce doesn’t have much left as an elite player either.

Salary cap probably would be a hard NO from half the teams
Cap aside
Buffalo NO
Cinci NO
Chargers possibly NO

Best team ever coached by the best coach ever. Aren't you paying attention? WTF?

I won't argue with that. Yesterday definitely felt like hero ball and I know some people accused him of that after the Bucs super bowl but I felt that game was more that Tampa was able to shut down his weapons and it was all on him. Yesterday was more on him trying to run around in circles to keep the play alive and it cost them. Either way the kid is a stud who seems likable (to me at least) if you remove his idiot wife and brother from the equation.

Dynasty talk happens with pretty much every team that wins the SB, especially ones with young qbs. Burrow wins this year, there will be talk of a Bengals dynasty. Rams... maybe with McVay, but they've pretty much mortgaged their future and have an older qb.

It's a common theme, and chiefs are headed towards a downward spiral.

So, to answer the question, yes, this is the end of a potential chiefs dynasty. There really wasn't much potential to begin with.

Don't forget the teams the Patriots had to deal with in the AFC all those years. The conference may be really good again soon with all of these young guys, but the AFC during the dynasty was stacked.

If the cheefs manage to win a couple in a row next year, the "dynasty" years will retroactively be applied all the way back to their first win... its just what people do, especially the media...

Not sure what the bills roster situation is like next year but if they are returning most of the same team, I think theyd be due to finally take out kc, if someone else doesn’t do it first. From there that may be it for their realistic window. In the 2023 season Kelce will be turning 35, and the cap is going to be more of a hurdle then. Mahomes will keep them in the playoffs but they will be alot more flawed at that point.

1) It's hard to win consistently in the NFL, even with stacked rosters and relative injury luck
2) Eventually somebody will have another dynasty in the NFL (3+ titles in a 6-8 year span). It could still be the Chiefs if they win the next two. But to do it twice and arguably three times if you include the Brady Buc years (!), yeah that's not going to happen for a very long time. Brady is the Babe Ruth of the NFL and his and Bill's Pats are the 1920s AND 1960s Yankees in consecutive decades

If they win the SB in 2022 & 2023 than yes it would be a dynasty.

Three in five years.

But it's unlikely any team repeats.

Most teams have about a three to five year window to win it all before they fall back into the pack due to older players slowing down and retiring and players leaving in free agency. The Chiefs just completed year four.

In 2023, Frank Clark, Chris Jones, and Patrick Mahomes alone all combine for over $100 million of cap space. They only have 18 players under contract in 2023 tying up over $155 million of cap space. Even if the cap explodes in 2023, they are going to have cap issues to keep their key players together.

They'll still be SB favorites headed into next year.

If I had to guess:

KC
Rams
Buffalo
Broncos (Assuming they get Rodgers)

I think most of us felt it was OVER when Mahomes was driving at the end of Regulation. The sequence of plays once they got past FG range was ridiculous, and to be honest, an indictment on his brand of ball. Sure it's flashy, sure it's fun, but it's inconsistent and risky.

It worked out for them in their SB run, but not against the Bucs in the SB and not against Cincy yesterday. That second half and OT were embarassing for Mahomes.

DYNASTY DENIED.

I am just happy they lost yesterday. The climb to the top is a long one with many disappointments. We will see how Veach responds to try to retool them and make another run. It is amazing how great the AFC is with so many young QBs and potentially Rodgers joining Mahomes division.

Whether the Chefs start losing coaches and talent or not the hill is going to get harder and harder to climb with all of the really good young QB’s they will have to get past just to get into the SB. If Mahomes had any hopes of ever catching Brady’s ring total he needed to pile up at least 3 of them by now. So while I expect them to stay relevant snd be a contender the next few years I think any chance he may have had to someday pass Brady is effectively gone.

Looks like Mathieu is gone.

Chiefs roster is going to have major turnover this offseason. Will be interested to see if they do anything with Mahomes contract. His cap hit is $35 mil.
