Personally , I think maye and the offense has to win it for us. (never thought that would be the case at the start of the year) . Our defense is just complimentary .They still breakdown randomly at times. Dont know how many 17-14 games we can win if our offense has an off day.

I tend to agree with you but I'm not certain the defensive interior is as effective without Williams and Tonga.

In the Giants game prior to Ellis pounding their QB, I was impressed with the speed Gregory showed in pursuit. He wasn't going to catch him, but he was motoring for a big guy.

Agreed. They have shown some cracks like every D.. but they keep teams out of the red area alot and get off on 3rd down.. gonzo and Davis as of late have been lock down.. I said before that Marcus is the biggest beneficiary from gonzo and Davis on the outside..
This is true. Its also true that teams have missed on a lot of opportunties at times, eg the justin fields throws or drops . We will see how they fare when they are face more consistent QBs and our offense isnt picking up the slack.

I dont know if the defense is good enough. So.etimes they look awesome and other times not so great. Red zone defense is the worst I've ever seen.

Leaning towards no

What about a light jog?

True. You make good points. This could be said all throughout the dynasty years as well.. this year's teams balanced in all 3 phases.. they are doing it with rookies, and veterans that have been at other stops and an evolving roster what's so impressive. The teams not littered with all pros on defense aside from Gonzo.. but they do it with coaching, fundamentals and hard work.

I am sure the stats are great. I am just saying by the eye test. 100% success rate in RZ, poor starts in most games arent what elite defenses have. They arent bad. They are good. They are not great. I trust this offense more right now than the D.
Yeah the red zone is an issue and Vrabel's mentioned that... I believe that going into next off-season the biggest need on D is pass rush.. once that element is added now we are talking.. however this years team remember earlier in the season the LBs were an issue? Ellis, Spillane, Gibbens are now strengths.. of the defense. I agree they are good but not elite.

You don't get to have too many elite players. As long as the QB is elite, I'm okay with that. However, I would like an elite pass rusher.

Pass rush is really very sporaidic with this team. maybe thats why they play so much nickel from what i read .

It is. They get good pressure from the defensive line.. they do collapse the pocket.. edge pressure is what's lacking.

The pass rush isn't good enough

Gregory- Durden-ponder-farmer have all provided quality depth on the defensive line.. Durden has been very impressive his interior pressure and abilities to hit the gaps are huge.. the defensive line is the deepest part of the defense.. they create pressure and move the pocket.. it's the edge pressure that's lacking..
