Like who? You want to spend a 2 on a slight upgrade over Newhouse?
He may actually be an average starting tackle by the end of the year. There I said it. Ouch, those pitchforks actually hurt!
In addition talking heads say he wasn't given much help in the chip, double department
I’m usually a big fan of Evan but this isn’t even close. He allowed a sack, two QB hits, a pressure, and had a hold.
In the second quarter Newhouse allowed the pressure that caused the intentional grounding (whether it was a good call or not), and then got called for that holding penalty and pretty much took us out of field goal range. Back to back screwups that potentially cost us 3 points.
Kudos for the joke poll with yes as the only option. So simple, yet I never thought of it. It's like when one of those really useful but simple gadgets comes out, and you're like, "come on, how did I not think of that? I could have been a millionaire!"
Newhouse should be looking for a new house if he isn’t already
Maybe only because Jordan Devey was primarily a guard here.
Take a deep breath.
Newhouse is what he is. I’m more disappointed with other OL on Patriots roster that he is starting over.
True. 3/5 of the line have been pretty bad. Thuney and Karras (aside from some strange snaps) have played well but Cannon has been shaky and Mason hasn’t been his usual self. Looks of bad protection issues against the Ravens on some of the overload blitzes.
Gronk and a capable blocking tight end like Allen made much more of a difference to the offensive line than thought.
What you are saying is that LT and swing tackles positions really aren't that important. The positions only justifies seeking "good cheap tackles".
I'm asking. I don't know who was available; none of us know. What we do know is that Brady and the entire offense has been risked on Newhouse, given that we have little help from TE or FB.
"Slight upgrade"? Why is the LT position and the swing tackle positions only worthy of a slight upgrade over Newhouse.
IMHO, one of two things are true. Either Newhouse and Cunningham were reasonable choices, given what was available OR Belichick should have used more resources.
at least he stepped onto the field........used a 3rd round pick on Garcia....how'd that work out?
By necessity you would probably be getting a team's third best tackle.
You might be right. Maybe more resources should have been used. But if you used a 2, you probably don't get Sanu and a 2 is a steep price for the quality of swing tackle who would have been available.
Interesting looking back on Gronk’s last year knowing what we do now. Career lows in yards per game and touchdowns, and throughout the year he obviously didn’t seem to be the same Gronk. And yet, it was arguably his most impactful year when considering what he meant to the team in the run game and his performance through the playoffs.
Now, we are nitpicking about the price. Perhaps a 3rd would have been enough, or two 3rds. Perhaps no one was available who was much better than Newhouse. Perhaps dante actually likes Newhouse and Cunningham, and will want them for 2020 training camp.
Is Newhouse the worst tackle you have seen play for this team?
He had the misfortune of facing an all time great ( Reggie White) in a Super Bowl WITHOUT HELP!!!!!!
