Is Jacoby Brissett our future at QB?

JG hasn't even started his first of 4 games and we're wondering if Brisset is our guy?

I'll just cheer the guys that play and leave that for the coach to decide.
JG's success or failure in these first 4 games is largely irrelevant as there's not a high chance he's going to be here to sit on the bench until Brady retires in half a decade anyway

Personally, I'll take Jimmy Garropolo playing at the level of Trevor Siemian in his first start: 18/26, 178 yards and a TD with a D that can limit the damage from a couple of picks by a guy starting his first game. If that happens, the Pats win on Sunday and we can worry about "the future" after the next three games.

Much too early to say. But in all likelihood JG isn't long for NE, unless he lights the world on fire and suddenly Brady tanks. Brisset has the inside track IMO but he has more to prove and I'm sure there will be newer competition for him once Jimmy is gone. Looked good so far though.

I think there's a very good chance Jacoby takes over the backup QB role from Jimmy next year....but TB12's eventual replacement may still be in college.
Elementary school...

Bill Parcells likes him! Not a bad thing.

“You never really know for sure until you see a player under the gun, so to speak, at the top level,” Parcells continued. “But, that being said. I have a very high regard for this young man. He’s an awesome kid. He’s very bright. He has zero personal issues. He’s a very dedicated, committed guy and I think he’s going to the absolute perfect place for him. They’ve got a great coach, a great organization, and they’ve got a great role model playing that he’ll be able to observe and learn from. It just doesn’t get any better than that. Because of what I think he has, his career is going to develop well.”

I agree. A performance like Siemian's last night would be a good start. Siemian had a couple of bad breaks. Didn't exactly like the world on fire but other than throwing off his back foot in the face of an blocked defender he wasn't terrible. Jimmy's going to be on the road in prime time against an equally formidable defense. If he doesn't outright blow it for us it'll be alright

Agree. As long as the D plays to it's ability, all Jimmy need to do is play slightly above caretaker level (make a couple of plays, get 50%+ 1st downs and no damaging turnovers.).

I thought there was a good chance Jimmy G would succeed Tom F Brady, but given how Tom has been able to maintain his body despite getting hammered so much I feel Jimmy G will leave for greener pastures.

Having Jimmy G start these first 4 games may be a blessing. The O line still does not seem settled-believe in Dante, but these things can take time. Tom has played a lot of football with all the post season games. Missing the first 1/4 of the season may help come January.

Jacoby was impressive in preseason. He has great size for the position and seemed to stick with plays well even when things got hairy. Certainly there is no better place for a quarterback to develop than the NEP. I now think there is a good chance Jacoby could be our next quarterback when Tom retires in 3 years. Looking forward to being proven wrong again.

Read my post and by greener pastures I most definitely do not mean a few hours down 95. Would hate to see him on the Green Beans.

Game was in the 2014 Championship season

You caught the mistake just about the time I did. Thanks for the correction. I had added a yellowed sentence after I saw the error. It was an edit that must have not gone through until after you quoted.

My, how things have changed since that Patriots-Chiefs game last year...

Yes, I know

I hope so (assuming Jimmy doesn't light it up when bullets fly) can't get enough of the

Brissett seems like the type of guy that would drop because of a glaring weakness, but I can't put my finger on what it is.

He has a perfect physique for today's quarterback position. He has the exact same measureables as Winston, without the baby fat.

He has a very strong arm, but good accuracy to go with it

A pocket passer, but good escapability as well

Highly spoken of by coaches and teammates. Known for his character

If it's simply a mechanical issue with a slower release than ideal, that is not a mountain too high. I think having this season to follow two qbs with some of the fastest releases in football should help put the importance in to perspective for him.

I have no idea if he will be the next one or not, but there isn't a single thing at this point that would doubt him becoming a good starter. If he is pressed in to service this year by injuries, I don't think he would fall on his face, either.

When we drafted him and I checked out his college highlights, I didn't have very high expectations of him. Just kind of never stood out to me. However, with all the attention on Jimmy this offseason I think we may have overlooked Jacoby's performance this pre season. Key words of course are pre season, but Jacoby finished:

38/56, 387 yards, 1 TD 0 INT 94.3 passer rating

Compared to Garoppolo:

36/54, 406 yards, 1 TD 0 INT 95.1

Regardless of Jimmy's performance in these first four games, there's little chance that he's going to be our QB of the future after Brady. Mostly that's Brady's fault because he still is in the prime of his career and Jimmy can't ride the bench another 3-4 years. So does that leave us with Jacoby Brissett to take over at QB? Do you feel as confident in him as you did in Jimmy's rookie year after his pre-season performance?

I really liked what I saw from him. Has a cannon of an arm but decent touch on some of his passes. Maybe we even get to see him for games 3 and 4 if Jimmy just doesn't quite cut it the first two weeks.

It is uncertain how many years Brady has left. Probably two as a starter. And depending if he can be a team player as a reserve, which is VERY questionable after his preseason greedy disruptions, a couple more as a reserve QB.

I doubt it. Brady himself, a big time college QB product, wasn't ready as a rookie. He doesn't know what he doesn't know, yet.

Why don't you think so? At first glance with Jimmy it was too early to tell of course, but over the last couple of years had Brady been set to retire now or next year, I'd easily pen him down as the next man up. He's as good as gone though, and so far (of course in as minimal a sample size and preseason games) Jacoby seems to be following the same path, albeit with a different skillset than Jimmy.
Just a feeling.

That doesn't add much to your thread I suppose.

Should have had 3 picks. We'll need better than that.
