The odds of such a seamless, Favre to Rodgers type of transition are slim and rare. Is it really worth holding back on building a 6th Super Bowl championship team around Brady to try achieving it anyway? It's pretty ambitious and nice to think of some ideal scenario where they just continue winning for another 2 decades, but that probably won't happen. Half the league is without a franchise QB. I feel like had Kraft not been involved, Brady would be the QB in SF. BB is the guy that pretty much wrote the book on getting rid of a player a year early vs a year late. And right now, yeah, Brady is Brady. But Jimmy looked great in the limited game time he got in NE, and his time in SF since then only reinforces that, which I do not believe came as a surprise to BB. BB knew what he had in his two QB situation, and I cannot for a second believe he would take an uncertain number of years of Brady who honestly could fall off a cliff hard at any time vs maybe 8-10 years of today quality Jimmy with his potential ability to improve.

It would be nice if Brady played another 10 years. That ain't happening. I think best case scenario, maybe three more years. When you have the answer to that problem already on the team, it's downright foolish to trade him away for a single 2nd round draft pick. Especially when some team probably would have given two or more firsts for Brady.

When you have them both of course you play Brady. But everyone knew that both would not be around next season. If you are looking to sustain the level of play NE is accustomed to would you take Brady and a 2nd round pick, or Garoppolo and multiple 1st round picks? And I mean not just sustaining things this coming season. I am talking 3 or 4 seasons from now.

Keeping Brady means unless the Pats get Brady level lucky again in this draft or the next we are probably in for some early 90s level mediocrity sooner rather than later. Keeping and extending Garoppolo, plus a few extra 1st round picks from Brady would have set the team up nicely for years to come. If they had Jimmy at QB and the right guy was on the board they could have traded the three 1sts and gotten into the top of the 1st round for that can't miss minimal learning curve LT or D Lineman that could solidify that position for 5-10 years. The kind of player NE has not been able to draft for a long time because they always pick in the high 20s or the 30s.

I love Brady but he is not bigger than the team.

You may well be right. But why take a gamble on finding a guy when you already had a guy? Brady is in the twilight of his career. That is a fact. We all hope he will voluntarily hang it up when his skills diminish. But he may decide he wants to hang on a year too long. It could happen. Or he could get injured. Yeah, any player can get injured at any time (Robert Edwards anyone?). But an injury that keeps a 20-something QB out part of a season could be a career ender for a 40+ guy. I am grateful for what Brady has done in NE. He is the best QB of all time. But all things must end, and I would have preferred the Garoppolo bird that was in hand to the two birds in the "how long can Brady keep it going?" bush.

As far as drafting a QB goes, they can do that at 43 if they want/need to.

During the season, I'm all in on the JG trade. after watching the last episode of Tom V Time, I think we will see one more year. Jimmy G is somewhat proven, draft pick at 31, 43, or whatever # isn't.

I'm not trying to get into another JG discussion, mind you. Just hindsight after the Tom v Time piece. I think he's not so sold on playing to 45 anymore.

I love Brady. But the time is coming. Sooner rather than later. He will take a hit that ends his career. Or he decides he would rather hang out with his family and enjoy the however many millions of dollars he and Giselle have in the bank. Or he still wants to play, has already headed over the cliff, and decides to not go peacefully into the night. Then there's a controversy that kills team chemistry.

A year early rather than a year late. That is BB and that is what made this team what it has been. The past is irrelevant. It's all about what can you bring to the table today, tomorrow, and a season from now. Last January may as well be 20 years ago.
