I actually have evidence from when I worked on a Madden video game a few years ago. After a few beers an EA director let slip to me that many of the NFL high ups actively had it out to screw Bill Belichick over. This is why we were screwed on spy/deflate gates despite many other teams committing the same rule infractions. He said it came from all the NY Jet fans in the league office hating BB for how he spurned the Jets.

This may be old news to some people but just sharing first hand from what I was told by someone close to the league office. The paranoia is based in reality sadly. For the record when you see teams like the Browns or Cowboys say “the fix is in” for them.. it’s nonsense. But for Bill Belichick he definitely has an extra hurdle to overcome. The refs on the field may have less impact but when the call “goes to NY” - good luck.

What the NFL should have done was to have more than one replay review team and have these teams in different locations. Assign them like they do for referee crews.

It's extremely likely that any NFL replay review employee based in New York is going to be a Jets or Giants fan and you know that fans of these teams would have no problem screwing over the Patriots. It's like having the ultimate home team advantage. They can screw over the Patriots no matter where they are playing.

and the only remedy i can think of is play well enough (ie no stupid mistakes) to overcome the cheating by refs/league.

That is essentially what BB preaches.

Didn't we all figure it out after deflategate? Spy gate was one thing but deflategate has to be the stupidest, most embarrassing thing a professional sports league has ever done to one of its star players, it was just a joke.
