In your opinion, how good does the #3 pick QB need to be?

Let’s say this. Out of all the QBs in the nfl which ones would you be happy if this guy turned into.

10. No
Allen. Yes
Tua. No
Rodgers. Yes

Pickett. No
Lamar. No
Burrow yes
Watson. No

Lawrence. TBD
Richardson. No
Stroud. TBD so far yes
Levis. No but tbd still

Jimmy g. No
Mahomie yes
Herbert. ??? So far no but potentially yes
Wilson. Yes

D Jones no
Hurts. No
Dak. No
Howell. No

Cousins no
Fields no
Love. No
Goff. No

Mayfield no
Carr. No
Young. No
Ridder. No

Stafford. No
Murrray. No
Geno no
Purdy. So far yes.

That’s not a lot of yesses.

Harsh list, IMO. Especially after watching Jones play this year.

I am OK with competence. If we only had a mid-tier veteran....this team would be playing this weekend, IMO.

My list below:

Jones/Zappe - No.
Rodgers - Yes, but the Packers Rodgers...not the older one now.
Tagovailoa - No, because I feel that his success is tied to Tyreek Hill.
Allen - Yes.

Jackson - Yes. He is worth it even with the injury/shortened career risk.
Rudolph - No. Although the kid is playing better than Mac Jones did the last two seasons.
Watson/Flacco - Watson is still worth it, just not what Cleveland gave up. And Flacco is a yes...if we had him starting for us before the Germany game...I think we might have been 8-9. But my answer is Yes/No.
Burrow - Yes.

Stroud - Yes. I am already sold.
Levis - No. Still too raw for me.
Lawrence - Yes, looked bad this year...but has all the measurables.
Richardson - Yes. Same reasons as Lamar.

Mahomes - Yes.
Herbert - Yes.
Wilson - No. I'd take early career Wilson though.
Connell - No.

Prescott - Yes.
Hurts - Still a yes, but has not looked good recently.
Howell - No.
D. Jones - No.

Love - No for now, but could flip to a yes. We actually bypassed him in the draft.
Cousins - Yes for the competency level...but no for $$$ and elite play in critical times when he has to carry the team, IMO.
Fields - No. Need to see better pocket passing before I put him up with Lamar/Richardson, IMO.
Goff - No, but he would have been an upgrade for the 2022-2023 seasons here.

Mayfield - No.
Young - No, so far...but he was good at Bama.
Ridder/Heincke - No.
Carr - No.

G. Smith - No, but it is a nice story though.
Stafford - Yes, but long in the tooth.
Purdy - Yes for now...but want to see how he does this post-season.
Murray - Yes.

My list was IF THE #3 PICK BECAME THIS GUY WOULD THAT BE GOOD

It's simple. This is the highest pick in 30+ years. It better bring a player that ends up in the Top 5 of all Patriots since.

I don't disagree. But I also don't think they're taking a QB at 3. I think your opening day starter's on the roster already, unfortunately.

Then it will be another season of complete ****.

He’s seemingly hell bent on this idea that Mac isn’t going anywhere, despite no evidence to prove that’s the case.

Staying true to the ******* brand.

I have to be honest; I don't want a QB at 3. I think it would be more prudent to trade back and try and load up on picks. We have a lot of cap room and a lot of empty roster spots coming up. For the most part this team has so many holes that we should try and fill with youth. I have also been watching allot of Bo Nix and do not think he is that far behind Maye in talent.

I absolutely hate this idea. Might as well have kept Belichick in charge of the draft if passing on the best prospects to get more jag prospects is going to be the approach. They need impact players, not six 4th rounders

I get what you're saying. My thought was the Giants would want to move up for a Jayden daniels and give up their 1st and 2nd this year and 3rd next year. According to the pick value chart I found pick 3=658.52, pick 6=477.44, pick 39=137.68, 2025 probably early 3rd= 65 or so.

If that happened it would give us 6, 34, 39, so not a load of picks

A #3 pick on a QB should be a 8-10 year starter and pushing top 15 in the league their second season of being the starter. I don't think anyone in this draft class is that type of player aside from maybe Drake Maye. Bo Nix is my sleeper as I think he has the best pocket presence. It's too bad none of them will go to the combine where we can see their numbers for real. I'm pretty unimpressed with this crop of QBs when I look at their play in a vacuum.

It's also entirely possible my thoughts on what makes a good QB are wrong and it's all about throwing 40 yards TDs on the run. But also the guys winning, and I mean winning not making it, the Super Bowl are Mahomes (a throw on the move type but not like Maye/Williams), Stafford, and Brady. Maybe this is the year a modern mobile QB like Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen wins it all.

Everyone is going to have their own takes on what to do, and that’s fine, and to be expected. Mine is that I want the QB at 3, trade up into the 2nd half of the first round to get their left tackle, then trade up into the 2nd for a WR. They also have tons of cap space to resign the players they want to keep, and bring in a couple more impact players, and fill out depth where needed. IMO they need two really strong offseason to become a real contender again, but it won’t happen until they have a good number of impact players in their roster, and right now that’s seriously lacking.

If Mayo is Kraft's guy and Mac Jones is Kraft's guy then it's highly likely Mac isn't going anywhere.

If we do our homework and the guys we want are gone and some other teams wants a player we know sucks then we have to make that deal.

You should never take players you don’t believe in. But looking at this Draft right now I see QB’s who could dramatically improve the team that will be available, and LT’s who will be available in the 2nd half of the first round. I haven’t looked closely enough at WR to know if the depth is there to get a really good one in the 2nd round, but there usually is enough depth at the position for it to be strong at least through Day 2. Things will obviously change between now and the end of April, but that’s my early take on it.

Overall I’m really looking forward to this offseason. I have great appreciation for everything Belichick has done for this organization, but it does seem like the right time to move on to a new era. But like the era that just passed the goals shouldn’t be to field a good team and go to the playoffs, they should be to field great teams and win Championships, and it will be really interesting to see if they can get back to those levels. There will be many disagreements among everyone here over the best ways to get there, but that’s kind of the whole point of having this site. If everything be agreed all the time it would be as boring as the team was last season.

I don't know man, after the last few years I think it'd be great if only for a few weeks we were all on the same page just virtually high fiving each other for all having the same great ideas. Just for a little while. It could be nice.

How good should the #3 pick QB be?

As good as if not better than the non-QB pick available.

If Marvin Harrison and John Alt are still on the board, he should be that good.

Agreed. Going QB for QBs sake in 2021 turned out to be a big mistake. Having Christian Darrisaw right now would be really nice.

Gotta throw the pick value chart out the window.

Think about the trades for Trey Lance and Jaylen Waddle.

3 first rounders to start.

And Harrison and Daniels are worth more than Lance and Waddle.

And under no circumstances trade up.

Let’s not be Carolina stupid.

But... he'd be protecting Mac.
