I've said this before and I'll say it again - Edelman and Amendola are capable of being on the field at the same time and producing. Neither is a replacement. Look at, for example, the divisional round playoff game.
Amendola played for another team before joining the Patriots. I know not many people watched the Rams play on this board, but are happy to talk about Amendola's play there as if they know what they're talking about, but the truth is that Rams fans were very, very unhappy to see Amendola leave and he was a better player for the Rams than Welker was for the Dolphins.
I watched a few of Amendola’s games with the Rams and also watched some tape on him online. As I have said in numerous posts in multiple threads there is nothing wrong with the signing of Danny Amendola other than the fact that we overpaid probably by $2 million per season for his services. Overpaying players is going to happen however especially when you’re looking to replace a major piece of your offense (Welker) in a very poor free agent market for WRs. That said there is a problem amongst posters, fans and even media members that set the expectation that Danny Amendola was going to do what Wes Welker did for this team and put up that type of production. That was a fail and it was because Amendola is a very different player than Welker and Edelman for that matter; Amendola makes plays 5-15 yards up field I have attached his highlight reel from his time with the Rams and if you watch it you will clearly see that he is at least 8 yards down field when he is making the reception.

Amendola like most receivers plays his matchup and when he can exploit it he does it extremely well but that is not a given week in and week out. Welker and Edelman do most of their work under 5 yards and that relies less on a matchup 1on1 and more on the ability to create space or find an opening in congestion, there is always going to be ways to create space or find an opening in a congested area in each game but you’re not always going to have a favorable match unless you’re a special talent like Gronkowski, Johnson Jr., AJ Green, Julio Jones, etc. which none of Welker, Edelman or Amendola are.
The best way to highlight that is to take a look at Amendola’s receptions that take place behind the line of scrimmage compared to Welker and Edelman
• Welker pass thrown behind line of scrimmage – 23 (2012 with Patriots)
• Edelman pass thrown behind line of scrimmage – 19 (2013 with Patriots)
• Amendola pass thrown behind line of scrimmage – 8 (2012 with Rams)
• Amendola pass thrown behind line of scrimmage – 6 (2013 with Patriots)
Amendola being inconsistent week to week in terms of performance is also nothing new:

Those are his game logs for 2013, 2012 and 2010 (he missed all of 2011 except 1 game) and if you look at them his inconsistent play week-to-week is consistent in all the season.
