If Joe Thomas used his legal handgun to protect his roomate he would = hero

What is wrong with that? HE HAS A LISCENSE TO CARRY A FIREARM. He saw a suspicious car lurking outside his home at 5am. He went outside to investigate and someone jumped out and SHOT HIS ROOMATE.

He did nothing illegal. Worry about your own colts players who beat their wives, carry ILLEGAL guns and get busted for drinking and driving. The Miami dade police concluded Meriweather did not do anything illegal!!!!! Get over it, you are grasping at straws.

You better believe if a car was parked outside of my home very late at night I would bring my handgun when investigating the situation. What would have happened if Meriweather did not have his LEGAL handgun? He may have been shot and killed. His roommate might not have made it. He brought his LEGAL handgun in case the situation got dangerous. Oh wait, it did the assailant jumped out and shot his roommate! Stop trying to make this into something it is not.

It was 6:30 in the morning. What reason did he have to feel threatened by a car parked in front of his house? Why would you walk outside with a loaded gun to "investigate" unless you were ready to fire at someone? If you were that scared or nervous why wouldn't you call the cops and stay inside where you defend yourself better agains an invader?

Can you answer those? Thought so.. I don't have a problem with a person who defends themselves nor do I have a problem with a person owning firearms or even carrying them. What I have a problem with is this perception that they didn't know something was up prior to the incident. Again as I stated earlier in this thread, I wouldn't walk outside with a loaded weapon to investigate a car parked in front of my house. Why you may ask? Because I have no reason to believe that someone wants to shoot me! I'm not making it into something its not, I am asking why he felt compelled to go outside.

Maybe the fact he lives in a city where a fellow teammate was EXECUTED for no reason earlier that year had something to do with it. Remember the Miami player who was shot in the back of the head for no reason last year? That what I thought... Do you have reading comprehension problems? I simply asked questions! The only area I flirted with speculation was with this statement "What I have a problem with is this perception that they didn't know something was up prior to the incident". Because his actions lead me and I would suspect many others to believe that he had a reason to suspect someone was there to do him harm. And again in that situation it is idiotic to walk outside without knowing who or how many are out there. It makes more sense to call the cops and stay inside with your perfectly legal hand gun and have the element of surprise on your side!

But your right it doesn't matter what I would have done. Because you would go outside with a loaded hand gun to investigate a car parked in front of your house because that is the smartest thing to do in that situation. Good point, its noted. And no those aren't facts. Those are your assumptions of what would be facts had your fantasy scenario come true. The only fact here is you are basing this entire premis off of your opinion and nothing else.

And while we are talking facts here is a fact for you! The Merriweather shooting took place in July of 2006, the Pata death took place in November of 2006.

Those tricky little facts! I think this means we can toss out the "people are out to shoot UM players" argument that you brought to the table.

Thanks for your insight. I'm not criticizing Merriweather I was pointing out common sense questions, in reality one question - why go outside? My enitire reason for posting in this thread was to criticize the basis of this thread. In the process I threw out a possible reason for why people questioned his character. I have stated that I don't have a problem with a person defending himself/herself. Again people need to read what was written. The only one sounding foolish in this thread is Danny88.

I endorse the pick, I think he will be a great player and I think he truly has learned from his mistakes. He got rid of his gun and apologized for the brawl incident. That is part of the maturity process. To be honest the brawl incident doesn't bother me a whole lot, it was the heat of the moment in a violent sport. If I am criticizing anything it is his decision making process and as stated above he appears to have learned from his mistakes.

The on field incident was bad, but the self defense incident is a plus in my book!!! I want more of that type of person(minus onfield incident) on the team!!!
