If Chandler Jones isn’t already he is on his way to being the best DE in the game

Lets take it easy for now...another 13-15 sack year..then yes

PFF does I believe.

I could say the guy i bought my car from does, and it would be as meaningful.

Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware, Tamba Hali, JJ Watt, Greg Hardy, Chris Long and Michael Johnson are a few I can name off the top of my head. Jones is a beast but let's not forget, the NFL is filled with beasts.

They're not as versatile in my opinion I don't think players like Ware could play effectively at 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT and I don't think the players like Watt could stand up at 3-4 OLB.

I do agree there are a lot of great players I don't think I'd trade Jones for any of them however at this point anyway.

I would take Ware, Watt, Peppers in prime, Hali over jones as most would based on where he is at RIGHT NOW...now in 5 years? who knows

If only Hightower played half as well as Chandler, that might have been an awesome first round. Still a great pick.

I wouldn't I think this kid is just touching the surface right now.

If the Patriots can afford him and/or he's willing to take a Patriots type of contract, Michael Johnson is the guy I would dearly love the Patriots to sign in Free Agency. That Defensive Line would rock my socks.

What makes you so high on Johnson? He has not followed his breakout 2012 very well and I wonder how much he benefits from playing on such a talented defense with guys like Atkins and Dunlap. Just curious I am not saying you're wrong I don't know a ton about him.

He's been playing injured and through concussions this year. I'm also hopeful that a slight dip in form makes him affordable. Johnson has great burst off the line and is equally adept at rushing the passer and providing dominant run support. He's also got range, just like Jones.

I try not to react to one season in isolation when appraising players. The margin between an excellent season and a poor one is rather small in professional sports.

To think chandler could have easily been a jet :rocker:.

JETS choosing Quinton Coples over chandler jones was a big blunder on their part.

I'm not sure scout. We haven't seen the Patriots use Mayo in too much of an attacking role (not that he can't play that). He's usually mopping up the play. That said, Wilfork has historically commanded double teams. Jones would be near on unstoppable with Big Vince fit and healthy.

There was a game right before he got injured where he was blitzing up the middle with success. Then again, maybe I'm just wishing for that impact linebacker.

Oh, don't confuse my comment as a disagreement. I've been of the belief for some time that Mayo is probably the third best player on the Patriots roster behind Brady and Gronkowski (people shouldn't confuse best with important). It's not that he isn't capable more the Patriots have needed him elsewhere. He's shown he's a playmaker when allowed to roam free.

I've had massive forum arguments with people who believe Mayo isn't a playmaker.

Defensive player of the month is quite a honor for someone so young. Looking forward to the day he gets the "star" treatment from the NFL refs. I see him get held quite a bit and would like to see more holding calls go his way.

It's a well deserved honor. Jones has been outstanding. Further to that, we are in agreement when it comes to the uncalled holds committed on a regular basis against Jones. I have no idea what the officials are looking at when it is clear as day he's bear tackled on most plays.

Do they track the number of holding calls a DL draws? They should. He'd be a leader in that category as well. The ankle injury affected him all last year, now we're seeing what a healthy Jones can do.

I have to disagree. Jones is being held on almost every play and NEVER gets the call.

The thing about Michael Johnson that will and probably does appeal to BB is his length combined with his athleticism. I'm just not sure how you force Johnson, Jones and Nink onto the same DL (I don't want Chandler Jones playing inside because he's so good of the edge).

defensive player of the month???...BAH!....I'm offensive poster of the last DECADE...get back to me when he approaches THAT lofty number.

Robert Quinn should be running away with DPOTY although Jones has been superb. I said elsewhere though that Watt should have won the award. The Texans may look horrendous, but he is as dominant as ever.

Stay healthy, my friend!!!!

Impact vs. steady, BB likes what Mayo does, he is the on field D quarterback and does what he is expected to do...

There are flashy MLB's out there, but seldom does Mayo make a mistake... dependable players are the key to this team's success.

In another era, you could be talking about Seymour. Your right, BB uses players to win games and that could translate to less flash and fantasy selections.
