This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

He overran the ball couldn’t turn to it. It didn’t appear disinterested just totally out of position.
It was a half hearted flailing at the ball.

The Achane touchdown is a good example. Spillane likely got dinged for a costly missed tackle there, but realistically given Achane's speed, very few linebackers could have caught him. Perfect ball that he caught in stride. Maybe some of the Patriot defenders close to the goal line could have had a shot.
I agree, Spillane had an angle to tackle Achane, but it was just a moment in time. I will say this about Achane, his workload against the Patriots was big - 10 targets with 8 receptions and 11 rushes. I hope he can hold up as the season progresses. He's fun to watch.

I’m a bit worried about Spillane. I’m addition to tackling his weaknesses has been covering fast players in space. He’s never been super athletic. A Jane is a nightmare matchup for him. Raiders may have protected him by pairing him with Diablo who’s a converted safety and excellent in coverage.

I don’t think he’s hurt, and some of his mistakes appear mental. I’m hoping he just needs to settle in and picking up a new defense is causing him problems

I know PFF ratings are often weird, but this week's top 5 has to hit the jackpot. Aside from Milton Williams, I very much doubt that anyone here could pick any single one of the other top 4 players. Please try to hit on some of them before you look. The bottom 5 seem sensible.

Top five PFF graded players

  1. LB Marte Mapu - 92.9
  2. S Jaylinn Hawkins - 85.5
  3. DT Cory Durden - 85.3
  4. DT Milton Williams - 75.3
  5. S Dell Pettus - 72.9

Bottom five PFF graded players

1. LB Robert Spillane - 30.8

2. CB Alex Austin - 36.4

3. S Craig Woodson - 44.4

4. LB Christian Elliss - 47.2

5. EDGE K'Lavon Chaisson - 56.2

I made the suggestion a weekish ago that we have a way similar to soccer league downgrades where posters get moved to The Practice Squad Forum based on percentage of folks that had muted them.
If you use that on the game day thread it will be 1/3rd of it’s current length.

I liked the old reputation points scores where dislikes brought your score down. Or the posts that were marked as a dumpster fire if enough people voted that way. Lol

Mapu played 7 snaps and had a pick. Did nothing on the other 6, but it PFF-ese if he played 70 snaps he would have had 10 ints so he’s the best player in the world. Durden also played 7 and Pettus and evidently didn’t screw too much up while out there. Hawkins is a head scratcher.

I don't want to keep pounding over the same points again and again... but overall i feel confident, health aside, this team will get better as the year goes on.

There main weaknesses have been CB, LB and WR. All 3 positions should get better as we go. Spillane and he coaches will figure it out, we have young WRs which will at some point contribute. Gonzo will be back at some point and Woodson along with the young CBs will gel a bit.

The only spot that really worries me is the OL. So far i am concerned about the Moses situation.. He was brought here to be a solid steady option. And his health issues and play are trending down. Hopefully this will not be an issue all year.... but i really don't want him having to take a week or two off to get healthy.
I’d like to see Bryant get a shot at RT, but our T depth isn’t great.

Whose is?

It is rather funny how most of this forum is very one extreme or the other. The game day threads are very Jekyll and Hyde (all roses and then end of the season in the matter of 3 pages).
Indeed. When we lose we're in despair because Maye's mechanics are broken and they can't be fixed and it's all because he's lazy, when we win we are in ecstasy and all kinds of sins of omission or commission are forgiven.

Meanwhile for Mike Reiss it's yet another game, with its ups and its downs...

And yet somehow, Mayo, didn't.
Mayo had limited at best coaching experience, and only really had one primary coaching mentor, BB.

In constrast, in addition to having a pretty successful career as a HC with the Titans, Mike Vrabel cites multiple coaching mentors who have shaped his career, including college coaches like John Cooper and Urban Meyer, and NFL figures such as Bill Belichick, Bill Cowher, Romeo Crennel, and Bill O'Brien, each contributing to his philosophies and leadership approach as a head coach. He also acknowledges his high school coach, Gerry Rardin, as a formative and lifelong mentor. That is an impressive list of mentors.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Mayo having success later in life, but he clearly wasn't ready to be BB's successor. Heck, the much reviled Matt Patricia has looked like a fabulous DC for Ohio State, life is a journey.

Ok .. I'm not sure where to go there.
Mayo was a fkn Ass clown.
