I suppose there's no way to rest Brady at the start of 2017 as well?

If Brady started the 1st 4 games last year Pats would have went 15-1 in the regular season.

It's never going to happen, but what we need is a fake scandal with no evidence of wrong doing against our most favourite 40 year old qb. A swift arbitrary 4 game suspension to keep him rested early season and then he's nice and fresh for a SB run.

In a way it's a shame the NFL league office is so fixated on integrity, as it means the chances of such a fake scandal and suspension are zero, so we will have to just hope for the best.

I'd start with ensuring the online is up to snuff no
matter who they play. No more up the middle rushes. They need to play like they did (mostly) in the late 3rd quarter on in the SB.

Do that and Brady will be fine.

He'll be fine. The extra two bye weeks will be helpful.

While a bit misguided this topic is pretty important.

The truth of the matter is that Tom is old. He needs to be managed and on a pitch count.

BB will manage his preseason and practice schedule throughout out the year. This is a given.

I do think they will make an effort to keep Tom under 500 throws for the year.

I think they will run the ball 500+ times this year.

Imagine they did this, went 3-1, a solid result, and then when they gave the reins back to Brady he went undefeated for the rest of the campaign and won the Superbowl

I mean heck we were one defeat away from that happening LAST year, if Brady had won one more game we would have had even yet one more reason to want Goodell's heas on a spike above the gates to Gillette Stadium

This forum would quickly become a very polarized place. Who bemoans the loss of a chance at perfection and who defends the decision for making the Superbowl we had just won more likely? It would definitely be popcorn worthy that's for sure

This is going to be a long off season.

Can't throw away homefield. If we get homefield it's pretty unlikely we will be stopped. AFC was trash last year but it may be better this year (though it'd be surprising if it was).

Unless Houston gets a QB...it's Pats/Steelers again.

Not quite sure why you disagree Q mechanic, are you saying you would sit him
I disagree because I want them to do what makes the offense run best with the personnel they have and not severely hamstring the team by running 60% of the time to "protect" Brady.

Its going to be an undefeated season. Brady will not be sitting.

Forwarding this heresy to Gisele.
Expect Costa Rican gunmen at your door, bro.

I'm concerned by the suggestion on here that the Patriots should modify their strategy in order to increase the probability of a perfect season, even if that modification decreases the probability of their winning the Super Bowl. A perfect season is desirable, but only as a serendipitous by-product of a strategy designed to win the Super Bowl, which is the only goal whose probability the Patriots ought to try to maximize.

If we get big leads he can rest the 4th quarters.

From the fingers of a noob to our eyes!
Rigetous, bro!

That was a great post...love that stuff

Doesn't the whole "No days off" thing make this convo unnecessary? I worried we're gonna make Bill mad even TALKING about it. He's gonna give us that "don't make me come up these stairs" look he used to give Reche Caldwell.
