Hypothetical: Trade for Deshaun Watson to get a 1st round pick and then dump Watson? (edited)

I've never thought about abandoning the Pats but bringing in that POS might give me second thoughts.
I don't think Kraft would.

i don't know if im more surprised by someone being worse than Brisket or that you watch espn... that **** ended during the spy gate pile on
Damn straight. It's been decades since I last turned on BSPN with the exception being a Pats game when I didn't have a choice.

And it hasn't ended there. I have a pretty long list of people and things I've avoided. Oddly enough, one of them is Al Roker, the midget weatherman who was throwing bombs about Belichick being stupid. And the Hollyweird scientists, Bill Nye and Neil deGrasshole Tyson, who didn't seem to understand that cold makes footballs deflate.

Could the Browns offer cash as well, to soften the cap blow to the Pats? I'm not sure what the numbers would be, but it's an interesting idea overall.
The Browns can pre-pay as much as they want prior to the trade. From a Browns point of view, I’d imagine the goal would be to dump as much salary as possible without giving up a first round pick. Maybe that’s something like paying his 2025 salary out as a bonus but trading two 2nds to dump his 2026 salary on another team.

Rob you may need to utilize the bold font in certain areas of your OP

Maybe underline, italicize,80 point font them as well

Totally get the purpose of such a trade, it's a classic salary dump. The real value to the trading team would be the contract relief. Kind of like the Brock Osweiler trade a while back.

I think it would be a huge distraction to Maye though. If Maye struggles and he probably will at the start there will be a lot of noise to play Watson and that's not what a young QB needs to deal with.
Watson won't be on the team though.

NE is basically paying his salary, and cutting him, in exchange for Cleveland's picks.

Right. If they were moving on from Watson, they'd need that top 5 pick for a QB. And if they had a rookie QB, they could probably swallow the salary while they dump vets and rebuild the whole thing.

After the Pats dump him he'll have the time to molest as many young ladies as he can but won't have the integrity of the NYFL to protect him

You didn't read the OP -- just the subject-- but you commented? OP said to cut him June 1st. Didn't momma teach you not to judge a book by its cover?
This is a common problem nowadays and why the media will give folks a headline that has nothing to do with the story. It works.

His subject was a good intro, and he immediately qualified his intent in the first sentence. I don't think it was intentional bait. I mean, come on, reading the first sentence of the post isn't too much to ask -- he got right to the point.

I think some people are missing the point. You aren't trading for Watson to be your quarterback. You are basically buying draft picks and potentially other solid players from the Browns. The owner of the team making this trade with Cleveland would need to be the richest type of rich which I would say the Broncos (Walton's), the Chiefs (Hunt's), the Seahawks (Allen's), Rams (Kronke), or maybe the Panthers (Tepper). We haven't seen enough of the Walton's to know what type of owners they will be. The Hunt's seem to not always spend the way you'd expect them to even in their current dynasty run and the Seahawks are almost up for sale. As for the Rams and Panthers, if you ignore monetary cost, it actually isn't that crazy of an option for them if they get enough back. Both those teams could use a jump start with the Panthers basically giving up on a rebuild a year in and the Stafford coming to the end of the road for the Rams. If they could get a first round pick or two and maybe a couple young solid starters it wouldn't be a terrible idea if you don't blink at spending $90 mill.

Not that I care for Watson's feelings but I think you have to at least consider the possibility of him playing starting QB level again for that to make some sense, just acquiring his rights and shipping him or keeping in some sort of exempt list would look bad so I think that makes some sense for a team like the Panthers who are rock bottom in many ways so **** it let's do that, it cant get any worse.

I watch the game to be entertained, not to feel second hand shame. I didn't enjoy us taking on Gordon, the one NFL player that consistently passed on millions to smoke weed as if it couldn't wait. I for damn sure don't want to take on a known sexual predator. We have to go winless for like a decade to get me to that point lol.

Another one that didn't read the post. Go back and read the OP.

I read enough. Eat the cap for a 1st rnd pick etc. Release him etc. Still no. Antonio Brown was here for only 11 days and the media acted like he was a lifetime Patriot. After all the GATES and Hernandez, can I just get a break?

I think the league would rather see him just go away at this point. I think in this scenario he would end up getting released and then maybe catch on somewhere as a free agent on basically a try out basis. Can't imagine many teams would sign up for the PR ****storm though for what Watson has put on tape the last couple years.

Watson could be locked out of the building and then released after June 1st. That's the scenario being discussed, and again you are acting like the goal is to add him to the team (because that's how you read it initially, and by gum, you are sticking to that take).

Still, you wouldn't do it for 3 consecutive first round picks from the Browns along with cash considerations to soften the cap blow? He wouldn't even get a locker or uniform. It's that concept we are discussing, not Watson's character, which wouldn't have a chance to impact the team.

The thing is, it only makes sense if the Browns are a QB away from being a major contender and have a QB ready to step up. These Browns aren't the Rams pre-Stafford.
