How to improve game-day threads?

Eh, I guess nothing will be done about it. C'est la vie I guess. :confused2:

We're not going to stop members from posting just becuase they are critical. That thread is always emotional and in the moment. It's not about well thought out opinions. If someone is breaking the rules (i.e. subverting the profanity filter, attacking another member) they will recieve a warning and or banning from the thread. If you just don't want to see a paticular posters comments there is always the ignore function.

Obvious trolls will also be banned.

This thread is not about stopping posters from posting. Its about creating another thread that is restricted to X and O's and any posters that want to complain or whine can do it in the general game thread where they can conceal their poor football IQ by attacking various figures, e.g, cut Brady, fire BOB or BB, bench this player or that.

Just my opinion,,, i hate gameday threads,,,,too busy either watching or listening to the game. So i say NO gameday threads, and just come back after the game and say what you have to say. Cheers

That's a good idea too. Just don't make in-game threads at all. I feel like a loser checking what people are saying over here during the game anyway. And the thing moves so fast, you refresh and its like 10 pages past there already.

Know what Fred Kirsh does on Patriots.com? He has a freaking in-game chat thread going. No refresh required. It just scrolls automatically. He moderates who's comments get posted when they all flood in.

I mean, yeah, I trust Fred. His moderator credentials are impeccable. The man is editor of Patriots Football Weekly. He's not some shut-in with freaking thousands of posts on an internet football board. Some guys comment totals around here creep me the heck out.

Oh, there's another idea. Have a 1,000 post maximum, or 5,000 or something. Or, even better, instill a yearly ceiling. Yeah, like only 1,000 comments per every football season. I mean, anything over that you just need to get your head examined.

I hope you see the irony of invoking the Nazis when talking about moderators, but then suggest imposing posting limits.

Unless there is a new rule that posters shouldn't be allowed to criticize any aspect of the team, and especially Brady or Belichick, until a game is officially over.
Thus, if you criticize the New England Patriots football team in any manner, you are condemned to the depths of hell! Brilliant!

Internet Gestapo! Brilliant! So much for the land of free and the home of the brave?

So are we going to start a game day thread for knee jerkers and trolls and another for level headed, good football posters?

The only way I see that happening is to set one up in the VIP which will limit the number of posters but still won't assure quality.

If posters are kicked off the game thread then they will make other threads with their knee jerk reactions, which will make the board a nightmare.

I'll leave it up to the other mod's if they want to be more active in the game thread. I don't come to the site during the game. I never understood how people can intensely watch the Patriots game and post at the same time. Perhaps they don't watch it as intently as they should and that's why there are so many, shall we say "off the wall" posts.

I usually give myself a hour or two cooling off period (win or lose) before I come to the board. And normally I have people at the house, so I'm not going be in a computer while I have company.

See this? Now yo're mixing and matching things I said in 2 different comments. I painted Mo as Hitler-esque for his megalomaniacal post a page or two ago.

THEN, in ANOTHER comment...

One of the essential elements of irony is incongruity, which requires more than one sample.

Nikoli, ever think of this? There's a lot of people who visit here for the fisrt few times thinking of jining and making a page and posting over here, but then they see almost every thread flooded with a dozen or two's worth of guys with freaking 15,000 posts and sh*t. Dude, that's freaking ridiculous.

Eh, I've never been one to care about post numbers, so no, I don't really think about how intimidating a high post count might be. In any event, I regard Patspsycho as one of the better and more knowledgeable posters here. I'd rather have 5,000 of those kinds of posts than 200 posts whining and moaning about how terrible the Pats are all the time.

Spend more time watching the game and less time reading/writing in forums. Let the cliff jumpers rant (they don't read). If you must chat with others online during games, use the chat or create an IRC channel that you can boot cliff jumpers from.

one question: Can a fairly knowledgeable and fair football guy (me) post a negative post without being accused of being a troll?

I think Nikolai answered pretty well. There's a big difference between saying:

"The O-Line just isn't getting the job done today. Brady's rushing his passes and the running game is stuck in low gear. Belichick and Dante have to make some adjustments or this game is going to go south fast."

and

"The O-Line sucks and that greedy **** Mankins is a useless piece of money grabbing ****. Brady's playing like a *****-whipped wimp behind it and that overrated BJGE dances like Maroney without the hair. Belichick's lost it I tell you. I don't think he gives a damn any more."

if you cant take someones (negative) opinion, then its time to stop playing on the internet.

That's why I don't touch the game day thread with a ten foot pole. I, and others, have discovered the best kept secret on this forum when it comes to game days. :rocker:

Here is one thing I will moderate on this thread. That is mocking and mentioning other posters by name.

I have deleted 2 posts like that, and should there be another, more action will be taken.

could it be....actually paying attention to the game?

I think I shall be joining you and the others sunday night in that best kept secret area. I used to love the game threads open during the games, but this season it's degenerated into a non-stop negative fest. Don't get me wrong, everybody is entitled to there opinion. However, this past sunday, I think that the first "doom and gloom" comment came on page 5, and that was the first drive of the game!

I have yet mocked a paranoid homer moderator within this thread.

As a 6,000+ poster, I have to say that my wife would endorse your idea. She thinks I spend too much time on here anyway.

But to your point, I haven't noticed a correlation between posting and stupidity. Some of us who post a lot occasionally make dumb comments (I've certainly made a few that I wish I could have back), but I noticed that a lot of the worst offenders on the game day threads have relatively few posts, so I don't think that will help matters any, even if it might be good for my marriage.

Sometimes I see this site as not much more than a bunch of drooling jocks.

And don;t gimme no crap about harping on the concentration camp angle.

I think a lot of these guys are too old and fat to be drooling jocks.

I think I can definitively suggest away to improve the board in general. Add Pewsterbaby to ignore.

Have to wait until at least the third play before saying "season's over".
