Will they end tonight with zero, one, or two+ players?

I think they will make one pick and trade out of the other one. I believe they will try to get another 1st for next year (again). I also see BB trading one of the 2nd round picks to acquire more picks in the later rounds as the Pats currently don't have any picks after the 4th round.

Of course, being a team that drafts by BPA, it would strongly depend on who is there when both picks come up. However, if I were to guess, I would say that this is the year they use both picks. It's a relatively deep draft considering where our needs are and there is now a rookie cap in place. The Pats could move up in the first round while keeping their later pick while still being able to wheel and deal to secure future picks and later round picks in this draft.

I easily can see BB trading #27 to 2013 and #31 for later picks. If I'm happy with what happens I'll be surprised.

Good points. Remember that BB always studies each season's changing NFL environment. The 1st round high pick reduction in $ may not directly affect the Pats much but it will encourage some other teams to trade up. Expect more chaos as a result. The 10 minute window will exacerbate this situation.

But if BB uses both picks he loses that extra 2nd rounder in perpetuity thing he's got going on. Gotta be exact player(s) he wants.

Two first round picks, trades a second. I feel like this might be a year we finally use the majority of our high picks without much movement. I think the defense was embarrassing for BB last season, given his background. He addresses it.

That said, won't be shocked in the slightest if we use one and deal for a 1st next year.

Set your DVR's so you can wake up after a great night's sleep and see who the picks were trade to in the morning and then get psyched for 4 second round picks in addition to the extra 3rd, 4th and 2012 first they snagged.

Hopefully two, tired of trading back for guys like Brace & Cunningham, and rasi dowling is already headed down the wrong path(I know it's really early)

No way they use both, quite possibly they use neither.

i agree. tho VERY likely to use one.

no way did BB trade away Richard Seymour for just a first round pick. he traded him away for a perpetual 2nd round pick.

I think they trade down from 27 and pick at 31, unless someone they like really falls for some reason. What we get will depend on how far we move down:

- if we move down 20-30 spots, we'll get a next year 1st, which is always BB's preference on the chance that the trading partner has a bad year and we get a top 15 pick out of it

- but if it's a smaller move down (say 8-12 spots), then it would be for a 2013 2nd.

I hope that they use them both (and I'm usually a big fan of trading down), but I don't expect that they will.

.....over the next 3 years.

BB trades both 1st rounders to Jerry Jones for 4 bottles of firewater and some dodgy blankets.

Why would BB trade a 2012 FIRST for a next year's SECOND???

How many new Patriots in round one?

I thought this was the question, so I answered with 2 or more, assuming that several first rounders will eventually get here, ala Moss and Haynesworth.

The poll would be more fun if those of us saying ONE had two options

One because we trade down
One because we trade up

Voted zero because I do not envision a player the team has a first round grade on lasting to the 27th selection. The only flaw here is the likelihood of finding TWO trading partners, albeit it is a decent possibility.
