This is ridiculous. I hate when QBs become runners to begin with because I think the QB rules should be designed to protect them from being sitting ducks; if they're going to run around for yardage, they can slide. Otherwise, provided they're not actually out of bounds, they're runners. And it's not like this was some cheap shot.

The part that really infuriates me: he's extending the ball out and trying to stay in bounds to gain extra yardage.

Great job by Bryant to stay focused after that call. Sometimes it's easy to get distracted and let your emotions get the better of you.

It was also, as pushes go, really damn weak. You'd be amazed how little force you actually have to exert on a mass when it doesn't have an anchor in the ground. Allen being mid air was going to go flying just from Bryant breathing on him at that point.

If the refs could get together without replay to decide the Harry muff ball hit his helmet by a pubic hair, they couldn't get together after a blatantly bad call like this?

Calls like this and half the DPI calls are what drive me nuts about the NFL today.

Can someone fart in Bill Polian's general direction please? What a poosay that guy was. I blame him because it makes me feel better.

Horrible call. If the pats or brady got one like this people would talk about it for years ( i still see people still talk about the one in the 2018 afcc where the chiefs dl barely grazed his facemask, the one bad call we got vs the 5 or so bs calls kc got) . But everyone will forget this or already have since it doesn’t fit the agenda

Yeah it was a terrible call because he didn't give himself up as a runner.

I hate it when QB's like Russell Wilson and Mahomes act like their going out of bounds, only to tight rope more cheap yards out of the play because the defender pulls up. I hate that chit!

Lmao, I was just saying in the Nkeal muffed punt thread that Rob would probably start a separate thread about this play call. Then another thread about the horse collar one. Ice beat him to it. He won't meet his quota. Hahaha

When a QB slides they spot the ball where the slide started should be similar application here if you get within x feet of the sideline it should get spotted where you started and not let them go further it's a safety rule and they should not be allowed to take advantage of it.

I was confused by this, wasn’t this the call the announcers were saying they might just check on replay even without being challenged and that was good to save the coaches challenge? Or am I crazy. Because it seemed like a bizarre opening of the door to random video reviews without any rhyme or reason behind it

This has been happening all season. If "the booth" sees something obvious, they can radio down to the refs to let them know. In theory, it makes sense. But are they limited to only reviewable type plays? That penalty was more obviously a bad call than the Harry muff.

Unfortunately, they probably won't do it with supposed judgement calls.

One Rob thread is too many.

Should be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty to start slowing into a slide and then juking out of it. Only time I root for injuries is when I see those two pulling that bs.

That’s so weird. So you have this subjective judgment call on whether or not it’s obvious, which adds a whole other layer of uncertainty to the process. Bizarre

GreenPigSow thinks this was a great call...

Exactly. They claim the refs can't look at the stadium screens to change a call. Yet, we've seen them do it. Flags coming out way after plays are over. Making calls they can't even make, etc. The announcers are calling them out every game yet nothing happens. In fact, it's getting worse. They're doing whatever they want. No justification needed. I don't think it's a coincidence this is all happening as the legal gambling sponsored by the NFL has spread like wild fire.

I remember Todd Collins pulling up to let Kordell stewart head to the sideline and he kept running. 25 years later and I am still pissed.

Mobile QB’s do that all the time by acting like they are going out of bounds, only to turn upfield on the sidelines.

Was the flag thrown on this play off camera? Usually, you can either see the ref throw a flag or a graphic pops up on screen that there is penalty. In this case, I don't remember either happening. ESPN showed the replay and the announcers were trying to figure out if Allen made the first down or not and when they went back to live action, Vinovich was announcing the penalty. It wasn't just a bad call, it was a late, bad call.
