Patsfans.com Fellowship,

May I propose that we revel in the YAC ability of young Mr. Baker who we will refer to from this point forward as:

Shake n Bake(r)

Me too.

Homer thread alert: Tyquan's breaking out with all the big arms we suddenly have at QB. He'll be finally ready mentally & physically, some experience under his belt, and now there's QB's that can deliver him the ball. By October he's gonna be all we talk about.

We are literally a starting caliber LT (and some rookie QB development) away from competing for the division.

Bourne, Osborn, Douglas, Polk, Baker, Henry, Hooper is a better group than being credited for. With better line play (still in the works) and a QB who can actually attack all parts of the field, this is a group that opposing LBs/DBs will have to be very deep and talented to stop.

The lack of a #1 WR was brutal last year because OL did not provide time for our 2s/3s to get open, and MJ's lack of arm talent meant DBs didn't have to worry about all parts of the field (sideline, deep). Sure he could occasionally float one between the CB and safety, but not with any consistency. When Maye takes over, that will be a completely different story, especially if/when we bolster the OL.

If we can manage to also find a #1WR, great, if not at worst, we will be back to being a legitimate NFL offense early in Maye's career and as he develops, literally the sky is the limit.

The new staff just needs to handle this situation somewhat decently, and after what should be another good draft position next year, we will be in very good position to be back in the playoffs where we belong. LFG.
Love the optimism!

Homers only??

The same negative nancy’s here throwing cold water on every take are no different from those in 2001 on boston.com/forums saying the team was doomed after Bledsoe went down with injury.

Is a championship run this year unlikely, yes, when the median age of all your potential contributors is 23 years old it’s highly unlikely they all “hit” at once.

That being said, what I know for sure is not having the talent is a nonstarter, an impossibility. But having the talent despite it being too inexperienced and untested is better than not having it at all.

Nobody can see the future. This team has a lot of talent, much of it is young and untested… but it’s sitting there nonetheless.

This team has 2-5 WR's down pretty nicely.

I look at Houston as a good example. If we can find our Nico Collins, this group can go from one of the worst to one of the best groups in the league. Question is, will that be a rookie? Or will we need to grab an Aiyuk in the trade market?

I'm hoping it's Thornton but wouldn't mind Aiyuk for a Second.

Adjusts my rose coloured specs.

"Wozzy is correct, even from across the pond, it is plain as day that we all have something to be excited about. Perhaps only a little bit this coming season but its there and its going to grow and bloom. Take my word for it".

Oh can someone explain to me what a "Homer" is please. I gather its an optimist.

ROSE-COLORED GLASSES

If we had acquired a solid starting LT, and Wallace works out at RT, we would be headed toward an 8-10 win season. Given our division and schedule that probably wouldn't be enough to get into the playoffs. Okorafor would be our swing OT.

If that's true, then we COULD have an 8-10 win season if Anderson is a solid LT, and the coaching is ready for prime time.
=========
The rest of the pieces are in place and arguably improved.

OL: Anderson, Sow, Andrews, Onwenu, Wallace is OK if Anderson is ready.
RB: Gibson will be a major addition. Hasty may surprise as a RB (and should help on ST's)
TE: Hooper and whoever are at least as good as what we had in 2023
QB: nuff said
WR: maybe not great, but certainly a huge improvement.
coaching on Offense: nuff said
DL: White should be better
LB: Judin back, Takitaki should be better than Wilson
CB: Gonzo is back, Wade was much improved in 2023
S: Hawkins is an upgrade over MIlls
ST: pro-bowl returner Marcus Jones is back. Production from Ryland or Slye should be much better than what we had last year.
Coaching On Defense - rose colored glasses say that we are fine

The general consensus is as goes the OL, so goes the season.

On that front Bedard did a two-game tape review of Okarafor and came away pretty positive.

For non subscribers, the TLDR is that he likely got canned by Pittsburgh after he criticized the OC (who got fired himself two weeks later) and that he looks to be a fairly competent tackle, potentially better as a LT than as a run-first RT. He often gives up a lot of ground in pass protection and often looks to be beat before somehow always recovering. He plays faster than his measurables which aren't great. No punch, but maybe that can be fixed.

I had posted someplace here a few months back a twitter thread showing he did fine against Judon and mostly fine against another high-end DE.

I didn't say it would, I said if you possess the talent... it could.

If you don't possess the talent, there is zero chance... and some chance is better than no chance at all.

I'd be very happy with players and coaches developing -- not really concerned about wins and losses. Frankly not the worst thing to lose a lot of close games and get another stab at a top 5 or 10 talent. Not tanking, but in every game with a chance, but just missing.
