Just give thanks that you missed out on sundry Pats pathetic performances since 1960. Watching developed character those decades.
Last season was exactly where they were at during the Tommy Hodson / HughMilliiating years, completely unwatchable.
I was a teenager when I started following the Pats during the 1996 season. The worst season I saw was 2000 and thought the wheels were coming off when Bill cleaned house. Then it took 20 years to see 2020 and 2022-2023. I'm pretty lucky that it took almost 30 years have a team this bad.

"Wrong thread?"

I started around the same time, 1994. Its funny because the 2 worst seasons ive seen besides last year were 1995 and 2000. Both times we went to the Super Bowl the very next year!

OL: much better depth and coaching. Need to figure out LT, and we need just the normal amount of injury luck

Weapons:
- the WR group is much better with the 2 rooks & Osbourne, and with Parker gone.
- TE's are better: Henry's solid, Hooper's better than the underachieving Gesicki, and hopes for Bell.
- RB's should be better: Rham will have a rebound year, and Gibson's an upgrade over Elliott as a receiver.

QB: was a pretty bad situation. Brissette steadies the ship and Drake takes over midway through the year.

Other:
- Defensive talent improves with Gonzo-Marcus-Judon back, but some concern about losing both BB and Steve B.
- Special teams: Marcus coming back, but place kicking must improve.
- Offensive coaching looks much better, with all due respect to BOB.
- Front office also is much improved, an underrated aspect during the summer & fall.
- we still have cap space so maybe a trade or pickup that makes a difference

Book it

We do not have to fear a windy game this season.

We are literally a starting caliber LT (and some rookie QB development) away from competing for the division.

Bourne, Osborn, Douglas, Polk, Baker, Henry, Hooper is a better group than being credited for. With better line play (still in the works) and a QB who can actually attack all parts of the field, this is a group that opposing LBs/DBs will have to be very deep and talented to stop.

The lack of a #1 WR was brutal last year because OL did not provide time for our 2s/3s to get open, and MJ's lack of arm talent meant DBs didn't have to worry about all parts of the field (sideline, deep). Sure he could occasionally float one between the CB and safety, but not with any consistency. When Maye takes over, that will be a completely different story, especially if/when we bolster the OL.

If we can manage to also find a #1WR, great, if not at worst, we will be back to being a legitimate NFL offense early in Maye's career and as he develops, literally the sky is the limit.

The new staff just needs to handle this situation somewhat decently, and after what should be another good draft position next year, we will be in very good position to be back in the playoffs where we belong. LFG.
Will Campbell in the 2025 Draft is a "Blue Chip" Day 1 Starter at LT (and there are one or two other OT's that would be no less desirable). Polk had the same Combine 40 Time that Pittman Jr. had. And both he and Baker have good hands and can actually run routes (although proper coaching is required to help them reach their full potential). Maye can be a legit Franchise QB. I'd prefer that he sit his rookie season so that through who was on the team before this draft, combined with how the players we drafted on offense in this draft develop, and who we can get on offense for FA's in 2025, combined with a hopefully successful 2025 Draft (especially the aforementioned stud LT) and other offensive skill positions and adding more talent to the defense. The team could make a really good showing in Maye's 2nd season, and with this being a 3 to 4 year rebuild (if they make all of the right decisions and good player health), I'm optimistic regarding the talent rebuild. Still not sold on Mayo, but I of course hope that he and the rest of the coaching staff are up to the task. I go all the way back to the 70's as a Die-Hard Patriots Fan and have seen some pretty bad times with the team. Let's just see where things go, and hopefully, they're going in the right direction.

In 1994, they went to the playoffs (lost to BB’s Browns), but had the big drop off in 1995. What happened that year?

Thats a good question. especially since 95 was the year we had arguably the best draft weve ever had. I just remember the early schedule was brutal and they pretty much failed every test starting 1-5. That pretty much killed the season, the talent was very young too

Also remember bledsoe struggled a bit that year and then they made chris palmer qb coach in 96 which seemed to help

No mention the HC and DC have never called a play in a NFL game

Well, the OC Van Pelt called the wildcard game Browns vs. Steelers in 2021. The Browns put up 41 offensive points. Does that help any?

All valid. I should clarify that this rose colored glasses view was still more directed at next year. Even I as a homer can’t buy into the idea of competing for a playoff spot this season.

I'd like one more draft with a top 10 pick.

Josh Freeman still has night terrors after being AVP'd

Maye is the best QB on the roster, if he starts day 1 we are rose colored playoff contenders.
Top 10 defense-This defense is 100% good enough for a playoff team.

In the division:
Jets: relying on 40-year-old QB off major injury who relies on mobility, and an injury prone 33-year-old LT, what are the odds that ends well?
Bills: Lost #1 WR, defense has aged and lost White, Floyd and Poyer, in middle of rebuild.
Miami: Hill is 30 years old, will lose step. Tua can't carry a team, they could not score vs Bills or Chiefs and our defense will be just as good. They lost 4 solid defensive players including Van Ginkel (#1 on PFF on Miami D) and Wilkins (10 sacks) to a defense that gave up almost 400 points

This division is weakening. Only the Jets look to have a defense that MIGHT be as good as the Pats.
Jets in 2023 had 11 less Points allowed then Pats, yet Pats had 31st ranked offense in Time of Possession. Jets offense stunk but Pats were worse. Pats threw 4 pick 6's vs Jets 2. Now add Judon and Gonzalez!

So, Pats might be the best defense in the division, so just score 21 points on offense with a stud rookie QB and we are in contention. Seems rose colored easy enough!

21 points a game is a MAJOR ask for this offense.
