I would rather have both. Clearly Hogan has wheels and is a good deep threat. Edelman should get stronger as the season goes on and can take over a game. If I had to pick it would be Edelman.

Maybe Edelman is a little more banged up than we are told or Hogan is just a few years younger but there is no denying Hogan has made some huge plays and been the better deep threat.

Do you think Edelman is just banged up or that the offensive design is to blame or has Hogan simply passed Edelman on the depth chart and right now is the better player?

This is not to say I don't like Edelman cause he and Brady have a ton of Chemistry and he has shown clutch ability. I am happy to have both but Hogan has been better than advertised for this team IMO. Who you got?
Edelman looks about 90% to me, which is to say he is almost at full health. I'd wager the dip in production from Edelman is due to more to an embarrassment of riches for the offense: Bennett and Hogan have opened up the mid to deep passing attack and, by extension, taken some pressure off Gronk (which leads to further deep plays by him). With White playing great, Lewis coming back can give us an even bigger threat in the flat that can further split the focus of defenses.

A balanced offense will lead to a Super Bowl victory. "Chuck it deep" (2007) or "short ball" (2015) alone, however, will lead to another loss to a team with a pass rush.

People seem to be missing this which is why i think he is more valuable right now. Bredy has his best deep passing numbers since prime Moss and while Bennett has something to do with that more than anything it is Hogan. He really has done well here and the best since Moss left this team outside the numbers.

When you said "Bredy" I thought you meant it as a couple name with the mixing of Brady and Edelman. That typo actually created a good fit.

Brady to Edelman. Bredy!

Edelman is Edelman.
Hogan (at least so far) is Brandon LaFell with better deep play ability and a little less field awareness.

Advantage: Edelman

I think people remember Edelman at his peak in 2013 and 2014 (particular in that playoff run when he was such a damn beast) but I don't think he is as good as then. Still really good but just a bit less.

You are acting like coverage has nothing to do with it. I love what Hogan has added to this team but the reason he is running unmolested down the sideline so often is because he is seeing single coverage with no help over the top, and the reason for that is that opposing defenses are doing everything possible to stop Gronk and Edelman. When Hogan shows he can produce when opposing defenses are doing everything they can to stop him then he will be at Edelman level.

Hogan tends to run most of the deep routes, while Edelman tends to run short ones. Since they are not interchangeable, I'd take Edelman since he will be a part of every game plan, while I'd expect Hogans role to be more variable week to week.

Stupid opening post. Without the defense respecting Edelperson's ability, Hogan wouldn't have the looks he's been given. smh

Hogan for TDs
Edelman for 1st downs.

Both are great .....each have different strengths....but both are deceiving....Edelman shiftier than what you expect and Hogan faster than you would think....you take them for granted and you get burned....

I think people are over-reacting abit to Edelmans lack of tons of production. I think you have to look at the weapons this team has this year and where he fits in the pecking order.

last year he had gronk as #1 and Edelman as #2...and Lafell just flat out was horrible.

with the addition of bennett brady naturally wants to go to his tight ends. so gronk/bennett are his #1 and #2. and Hogan has been solid as an outside receiver so theres another target. and once lewis comes back there is another target for brady.

I dont mind it as taking less hits should keep edelman and everyone more fresh for the playoffs.

Sometimes I want pepperoni, sometimes I want Italian sausage. Most often I want both and ALWAYS would I be pissed if one went off the menu.

Not involving White:

Edelman is target #1
Gronk is target #2

The line forms after that.

This!

Not to mention, when teams play Brady, there main focus is to take away the short passing game. Therefore Hogan has tons of 1 v 1 battles on the outside, and fortunately for us, he has the speed to get separation, and the height and strength to win jump balls. And his hands seem to be good too.

I also think the Pats are managing Edelman a little bit. Shorter workload so he can be ready for the end of the stretch run into the playoffs.

Love both guys though. This offense is loaded!

The comparison should be made to LaFell in 2014

Thru 8 games

2014 LaFell- 50 targets 30 catches 60% catch % 461yds 15yd ave 4TDs
2016 Hogan 27 targets 19 catches 70% catch % 391yds 20.5ave 2TDs

I'd go out on a limb to say that if TB12 played for the first 4 games, Hogans numbers would be even more impressive.

yeah, games #3 and #4 were basically no passing games.
