History of QBs taken in round 1

Majority of those 20 QBs are either washed up, not championship caliber, stop-gaps, unproven or questionable tier-2 "franchise" QBs.

That 2004 draft with Eli/Ben/Rivers was an outlier.

don't disagree with that...but my point being they are still starter level quality in the NFL. QB's just aren't being developed like they used to be plus we're super spoiled....

How many of these 1st round QBs were not 1st round talent but were selected only because they were QBs (Manziel, Manuel, Weeden, Locker et.al.)?

Back in 2014, Scouts, Inc. rated Bortles at 91 and Bridgewater at 89. Haven't found their ratings yet for Manzeil or Garoppolo.

Some previous ratings:

Luck - 99
RGIII - 97
Winston - 97
Gabbert - 96
Tannehill - 94
Newton - 93
Mariota - 93
Wentz - 91
Goff - 91
Locker - 90
DeShaun Watson - 89
Paxton Lynch - 88
Kizer - 87
Wheedon - 86
Ponder - 85

Depending on what you quantify as a success vs failure, what is that, an 80% fail rate give or take? It's astounding how many 1st round QBs are either outright busts, or not worth anything close to a 1st round draft pick. I get why teams reach for, and draft them, but wow the results are pathetic.

I never realized the first round had so many complete dogs

LOL at Cleveland

I often do. Would someone post a pic of drew Carey doing cleaveland rocks? Lmao

Always helps my episodes

Worked out, won two Super Bowls...

...after we traded him
To be fair, he spent his time in NE running for his life with no offensive line in front of him. The Raiders gave him protection and he showed what he could do..And his trade to SF for all those draft picks set the table for the Pats rebirth in the mid 70s.....

LOL at Cleveland
Cleveland:

We have picks at #1 and #4, but we’re going to choose to bring in Tyrod Taylor as our QB instead, and we’re going to guarantee him the starter’s spot in the month of February before any spring practices or TC have taken place.

I admire the hell out of the hardcore season ticket holders who keep showing up, watching their team win a total of one game in the past two years. They seemed friendly enough when I went for the Brady return from suspension game, and they definitely haven’t given up on their team. They still have the Indians and Cavs, I guess. I’m very interested in checking out the rock and roll HOF, and I don’t think the pro football HOF is too far from there—maybe an hour or two. I just can’t wrap my head around the idea of spending a weekend in Cleveland.

And here we go again with silly hit and crap shot terminology..

All kids coming out from college are NFL prospects. The grooming of NFL player is equally on players themselves and coaches (with GMs, agents, franchise cultures etc. all playing a part).
Many “busts“ would turn into “hits“ in different circumstances and vice versa.
(Not to mention outside factors as timing, health, personal life, other intangibles..)

Prescott f.e. was a wonder hit last yr coming behind best OL and arguably best running game in the league. This year he is suddenly a bust facing reality of depleted line and struggling skill positions.

If anyone Pats fans should have first hand experience that coaching, head-coaching, GM-ing and franchise/football culture are crucial in determining player's fate.. Plus a whole-lotta-luck (or good fate if you please)..

I’d be upset spending any amount of time there. On long trips, I’ll drive 400 miles out of my way to avoid Ohio. Affraid bad juju will get on me or something

I agree about the fans there though. 0-16 and they will still be there. Even if they have to wear paper bags on their heads with the word “why” written on it lol

Woo hoo. Figured out how to do that on iPhone.. after only three months

It’s not a QB thing.....every position is like that

I'd like to see that same QB draft listing for the second and third rounds.

Combine that with the new rules:
  1. No lowering your helmet.
  2. And a new rule in the works stating not to give anyone a "boo boo".
If you can draft one of the top 4 QBs this year, you're in pretty good shape. You'll have a good QB for 40+ years.
After 50 years of abject futility yielding ONE proven winning QB -- that is ONE in a full HALF-CENTURY -- your moronic team stands a better chance of Goofy Woody Johnson getting struck by lightning.

Woody Johnson - a guy who, in spite of his own nickname, insisted on naming one of his sons "Jack Wood Johnson."

Hoyer, Mallett, Garoppolo, Brissett and Cassell in other uniforms have looked about equal if not better than they have with the Pats. The Pats don't have a magic spell for QBs.

What is it about "bringing them up" you don't understand? It's about learning and not being thrown in.

I wonder what kind of careers Tim Couch or David Carr might have had? A year to learn, or a 56 or 76 sack year while learning? I think it makes a big difference.
