Barflyyyyyyy
A great film. As a younger man, I spent far too much time in bars, either drinking or playing music. This film captures the sad and powerful allure of such places. I am sort of expecting the health and safety conscious totalitarians will drive them all out of business before long. When I was a kid, every neighborhood had its own bar: wonderful places, but no longer quite the thing for battered old souls like me, my doctor would tell you.

Guess @Ian could not help but go on a power trip and kill one of the few remaining fun things about this board. Congrats, I guess. You sure showed him....
Don't forget to add #FreeDingleberry to your signature like a few of us have already done.

I'm gone for 24 hours and all hell breaks loose. WTF is going on in this place? This is an online forum = words are posted.

There just can't be any justification for words being posted as the reason to ban long time members and shutting down the Casino. This ****ing sucks and it's very dissapointing to see.
Way back when the PoFo started we had 2 excellent Mods in Free Ted Williams and Patters.
When any of us crossed the line too much we got timeouts ... thread lock or punishment weeks on our honor.
I am hoping that is the case here.

Back in grade school an entire classroom would get punished (no recess) for the actions of 1.
We all suffered for those actions ... all of us in the casino were having a blast ... my 1st year I was loving it.
Now we all lose that respite ... and it sure was that ... no *****ing and moaning like most of the ad nauseum threads.

As for the War thread ... IMO that is absolutely political ... by being allowed it becomes a part of Google search.
Why it is very political because those links are propaganda ... and are one sided ... like PatsFans needs to be a tool for propaganda?
Well my opinion on this ... FWIW. Back to this excellent thread ... it is

propaganda
information, ideas, opinions, or images, often only giving one part of an argument,
that are broadcast, published, or in some other way spread with the intention of influencing ...

I remember Patters. Is he still around?

**** that War thread. Now you can't post tweets. What a joke.

Did you read the explanation Ian posted? Has nothing to do with what you’re saying here. It’s on the main forum front page.

The post starts by discussing proportional punishments and alternatives to outright bans. It goes on to talk about the politics being pushed in the War thread. Dingleberry not being here anymore all started with repeated banning of right-wing opinions and posters in the War thread while left-wing posters "taking pot shots" (among other things, as another user put it) went completely unchecked.

In short, the post is completely on point.

No, Dingleberry not being here anymore had to do with he and Kontra not letting it go after I asked everyone to roll things back in that thread. They essentially told me to go "F" myself. That's why they were both removed. I've left the posts from that exchange there, and did so specifically so people could see what I was dealing with.

Here's the deal. If I ask someone to do something, it needs to be done. If you go into a bar and toss a drink in the bartender's face, you're gone. I've had it thrown in mine literally almost 30 times by him (Dingle), and I didn't do that - I let him stay, because he ran the contest and I thought it would blow over because we had a good relationship. It reached a point where even I - as patient as I am - said enough was enough. He posted multiple threads in the main forum using politics as his way of irking me, again, blatantly throwing drinks in my face. He didn't need to and had he not done that, he'd still be here.

I don't know what to tell you, man, and this is really starting to irk me. I'll say this - not a single other "right-wing" person has been removed from that thread. So whatever "bias" people seem to believe exists, it's not the case. I've said this repeatedly and I'll say it again - I 1000% don't care what side of the fence anyone falls on. I couldn't care less about politics. My one rule is, don't be a d**k in here. I'm assuming he didn't think I'd get pushed that far, and I honestly had no desire to do it. But after getting a drink thrown in my face for the umpteenth time, I booted him. And that's the point I'm at.

I'm not getting into what-about-isms because we could go on forever - I've already told you in the thread that I do the best I can to be fair and need help from everyone to keep it in check. I've been a guy who respects everyone in here. That's because you guys deserve that. That being said, if you're fine with what I've told you happened from his part to mine, and you think I should have just kept letting it go - given the lengths, he went to in order to try and creatively p**s me off, I don't know what to say. I've been about as transparent as I can. Not much else I can tell you there.

As an FYI - that entire forum is blocked from non-registered users. So every thread is blocked from being included in search, whether it's Google, etc.

I can appreciate that Dingleberry was pushing buttons to illicit a response and got one. But one of the key words in my comment was "started". What started things before they snowballed to this point. Multiple people argued (from all sides) that the perception of bias was reasonable regardless of whether there was a conscious effort to censor certain viewpoints. I don't think anyone's opinion is going to change on that. It may have been the result of nothing more than a couple posters from one side complaining while others didn't, but the perception wasn't an unreasonable one to have.

I also don't think I've ever suggested that you shouldn't have reacted. In fact, I don't think a single person has argued that. People are more or less agreeing with you that a time out is, or could be, warranted here. A time out for him to think about things and then what happens after that would be up to him more than anyone else.

You lost me when you put Patters and "excellent mods" in the same sentence.

I miss Patters too! We could not have been more opposite in political leanings, but I liked and respected him. We tried to work together to basically herd cats in that forum. In the end, it was just a *********** that could not be corralled.

I can tell you from experience that IAN HATES to ban anyone, but we also have to remember that it is Ian and Ian alone who puts his time and money up for us to have this forum. Not biting the hand that feeds you is one of the best adages to follow in life. If you enjoy this forum, maybe respect the guy who makes it possible! One poster even threated to sue Ian! Ask yourself, would any of you risk that and your money just so knuckleheads like us can group ***** about football?

The rest of us are anonymous posters, Ian is the only one who could be found liable for stuff posted in this forum. If you did not notice the DOJ just put a guy in jail for posting memes!!!

I enjoyed Dingle and his casino (if nothing else it taught me to NEVER bet on football with real money), but you could see in the last month or so, he was being indignant, I'm sure he was warned and admonished, but he just had to push it.

Like I used to tell people as I was escorting them into prison.......

When you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

Thanks, Ian, for this forum, and all you do to make it possible!

Very intelligent creative people can be a bit off their rocker - that is normal if you will. A time out is usually all it takes to shake the cobwebs back into place. I hate you see anyone banned as well, we all limp.

RIP Kontra. You’ll always be Emperor Commodus to me.

One thing I've learned over the years is any "suspensions" or timeouts here just build animosity and cause people to come back with a vengeance. They've never worked, and I'm pretty sure it would have just set him off further. That's why I don't - and won't - do them.
