Have the Pats already addressed the O-line issues??

I never thought I'd say I'm happy to see Solder back at LT but we sure missed him last year. Hopefully, Vollmer back at his normal RT position will solidify the tackle positions. I would keep Waddle as my 3rd tackle in case of an emergency. I don't like all this rotating lineman in and out, especially when one of the lineman is named Cannon. As far as the interior goes, hopefully a year under our system and Shaq and Jackson will improve and Stork will be injury free and return to his rookie season performance. Again, no more rotating, I don't want to see Kline anywhere near the field. unless of course it's with some other team.

No.

If Shaq/Tre fail to develop then I hope Tom has fun picking himself up from the ground on 75% of the plays...even ****ty teams with terrible pass rushers were able to get to Brady.

Not good..

Jesus, the lengths you go with your chicken little ****.

1 player will be the reason why the OL isn't good.. Genius f**king logic... Guess the other 4 guys have no say in the matter

Also I take it you missed the Chiefs game... the Interior OL was good. Howard, Bailey Poe were invisible that game...

Scarneccia has a plan... All of the players that have been bashed in this thread will become cat like quick or they will be somewhere else.

not just the interior. vollmer struggled all year plus he's always injured. ankle/leg/back who knows if he can stay healthy and effective this year. who do we have behind him? ladrian waddle? give him a break. same with cannon fodder and fleming since they both stink

I think there are several OLmen on the roster who have shown great potential. The key is health and consistency. Give me Solder and Volmer at the T and then give me some sort of consistency with Mason, Andrews, Stork, and Jackson inside and I think they'll be ok. Would I like to add another proven vet, DUH.

But guys, we are the Patriots. You know we'll be in the AFC title game again.

Pretty much a wait and see. Regardless of the injuries and coaching that was the worst oline performance I have seen in The BB/Brady tenure. Incredible they were able to get to the Championship game and still almost pull it out.

Glad to have Solder back but I think if they see a LT in this draft they feel is worthy I hope they pull the trigger. Not sure how the front office works but if they cut Solder next year they save 7 million against the cap. Not saying that's what they should do,but if he gets injured long term again or under performs it could definitely be a possibility. Of course I'm pulling for Solder to be all pro regardless but I would certainly want a viable backup for this season with potential to start if possible. Good thing is is they still have next years free agency as well the draft in 17.

Speaking of pinning hopes. It's imperative Scar does what he does this season. If he can help Mason and Jackson progress in their sophomore season that will be a huge plus.

Umm.. Kline was the Patriots best interior lineman until he hurt his shoulder in the Philly game. He wasn't the same after that..

Was just coming to post the same thing.

I don't know how so many posters fail to remember the first half of the season, and what a pleasant surprise he was. He's definitely worth keeping as a rotational/backup player at worst, and that's due to his familiarity with our scheme, ability to block well in the run game, and sheer versatility. I actually had him as a day one starter, despite so many assuming that we'd go with the rookies.

He may be unremarkable at times, but I don't think he's "bad" as some here seem to suggest. As a matter of fact, although he did allow some hurries and a couple/few sacks down the stretch, he certainly wasn't the weak link of that OL. Unfortunately, the whole damned thing seemed to fall apart.

Neal, even though he would end up being released, and Wendell were signed by the Pats out of college so they didn't come from the outside. Compton, Ashworth and Gorin were signed in 2002 or before so they're probably not the best example of what the Pats typically do or don't do.

Neal was released and spent almost the entire year in Philly before being brought back.
Compton, Ashworth, and Gorin are prime examples. So are Connolly and Waters.
Joe Andruzzi is another one who was brought in from outside.
Billy Yates and Russ Hochstein are others..

The Patriots have always kept an eye out for guys who they could bring in on the O-line. Whether it be starters or players to develop. I don't consider grabbing guys who have been with other teams to be "keeping it in house".

That being said, thank you for the correction on Wendell. I went off the top of my head. I got Wendell confused with Yates.. in terms of thinking that he'd been drafted..

Everything bad that could of happened to the line happened, just crap luck. From losing the LT all season to the RT being on and off and the 3rd tackle sucking/hurt as well. Plus an interior line that consisted to rookies. If health is on our side next season the line should be fine, especially with better coaching.

Scar being back alone will improve the quality of play. Nothing against Googe, but he didnt seem to adjust in game the way Scar does.

I think the interior play will be better this coming season. Inexperience and injuries hurt that.

With tackle, ive said this before in other threads, but I want to see Mike Williams move full time to tackle and see what he can do there. Maybe down the line he'll be the "in house " guy we develop to replace Vollmer?

Important to this discussion is what about the Tight End?? Currently we have Gronk and Michael Williams, to make the O line better need a big body you can move around and can gain some yards when necessary..

But do think O line will be better with the confidence and coaching ability that Scar brings with him..

I liked Kline, he was pretty decent IMO. If Solder and Vollmer stay healthy they will be ok.

that's why they brought develin back

I wouldn't say they've addressed it, per se, but I do expect improvement from the line even if no other moves are made. I think the combination of Solder returning, rookies developing, and better coaching will result in a net gain. Now, I'm not convinced that the gain will be enough for what I'd like to see the line become, so I want to see them add some depth and competition to a few spots. But that can be added in a number of ways that don't involve a big splash in the first few days of FA.
