Guregian: Boutte Requested a Trade Back in April

I like Boutte, hope -think he wont be traded.

Assuming (50-50) that the Guregian Story IS TRUE, .. there are still a whole bunch of ways of asking that question.

Its July, almost August, and this supposedly took place in April….~90 days ago. Vita Vea put it out there on Insta/MyFace Day0. … so obviously he was diskrete.

- Just maybe this was more like an Agent inquiry than a „Vrabes I want an appt in your office with Wolf“ kinda thing.

When the Deal for Doubs went down; he had to take that AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT Personal. Maybe only for 5 minutes, but he had to be thinking….THAT was MY Deal he STOLE.

So maybe he or his agent threw it out JUST to guage the interest ( both Pats & the 31). Question answered with not the answer we wanted….get back to bidness

I would imagine teams would offer more for Boutte after a few WR injuries this summer. We will see.

I think that Boutte is worth more to the success to the 2026 team and future teams than a 2027 5th, perhaps even more than a 4th.

I suppose that a good camp and pre-season from Doubs and Williams could change that assessment.

The open question may be whether Doubs can replace Hollins in the rotation.

Can't keep everyone. Lots of guys are important. Milton Williams was important to the Eagles but we signed him because if a team drafts well some free agents will leave. It is not if Boutte can help the Pats, everyone agrees Boutte can help, it is who are the Pats going to pay and how much can the Pats pay under the Cap. By signing Doubs the Pats "indicated" they would not be signing Boutte and Douglas. If we draft well we can't sign everyone, even if the player would help.

It's still early. Things will change as the off season and early season progress. Other wide receivers will get hurt, or not pan out as expected. Could happen to other teams, or to us as well. Until then, hang on to our asset until the market dynamics crystallize.

He's not going anywhere as he already has the upper hand on Doubs as of today.

We have a 2026 season.

1) Boutte will be a good 2026 asset. I agree that, assuming that Doubs and Williams work out, there is no way that we would re-sign Boutte for 2027.
2) I expect us to re-sign ONE of Douglas, Boutte and Hollins. I see no reason to expect that Douglas or Hollins would be an expensive re-sign as a #3/#4 WR along with Williams.

3) I believe that we can afford a 2027 WR set of Brown, Doubs, Williams, Hollins/Douglas. I see no reason to make the 2027 decision now.

4) I guess that I am so satisfied with our WR situation for the next 2 years that I see no reason to mess with it. For 2026. we can afford to keep our 6 WR's. Clearly, we COULD move on from Boutte or Douglas or Hollins in favor of Chism.
==========
THAT BEING SAID
It does make sense to trade Douglas at the end of camp or on the day after the so-called final cuts. Chism could be on the PS or #6 again.

Yes we do. Great point.

I agree.

We will resign two of the above. They will keep Hollins at short money and Hollins does not want to leave. Then add Doublas or Boutte, I assume Douglas. We do not need to continually make changes at WR.

I think they will keep both Hollins and Douglas plus maybe a young guy. It depends on how successful Douglas is in FA, but I expect little excitement for Douglas in the NFL - his main skill set is limited so his value is limited.

Clearly, Chism is over-rated as PatsFans always over-rates the Pats players. You are going to replace Hollins at 6'4" with Chism at 5'10"? Not a chance. The Pats tried it last year, because that was their only option, with very limited success. Chism is not an X to replace Boutte. You are mistaken.

I still have Boutte as our 3rd best WR

He's playing his cards right, being professional, playing hard (perhaps as a tryout for a new team) and knowing that he can't sit out (like Gonzales could justify) since he's getting 3 of his $4 million rookie contract this year.

Unless there's an even swap for a decent edge, we keep him until September as the injury bug can hit us, and will certainly hit other teams who will offer more if they have a need at WR.

Thibodeaux appears to be having a strong camp too and the Giants have "too many" edge rushers

There's other potential trades out there for Boutte, but I won't be surprised if he's still here in September and I won't complain either

Thats the crazy part.

Boutte has the potential to be better than Doubs. I think that he is going to tear it up this season and prove it.
Boutte should be an important part of our 2026 Offense.

Thing about Boutte os that twams don’t forget their own pre-draft intel.

Obviously teams took him off draft board because of the gambling thing, but there was also concern about attitude and character. While he seems to have been a good soldier, those SAME concerns resurface when considering giving a player more money than they have ever had.

Gotta be very careful giving certain personalities life-changing $.

Fair or not, Boutte is being dinged for who he was at 20 years old.

Market uas spoken…no team believes him worth more than a late round flyer.

Boutte should be an important part of our 2026 Offense.
He should be. I would hate to see him leave and strike it big after all this time.

But, if the Pats decide to carry only 5 WRs Boutte has already asked to be dealt.

WR 1 AJB lock - Diggs had the highest number of targets @ 102, AJB had 121 targets last season. I envision AJB having a huge roll in the Pats offense so more targets need to be found somewhere.
WR 2 Doubs lock - Doubs already does Bouttes job. I must wonder if Boutte is a bigger pain in the axx than we are aware of and if the Pats do not trust paying him a huge contract for fear of him going off the rails.
WR 3 Williams lock - Its doubtful that the Pats would dump him in his sophmore season.
WR 4 Hollins lock - I cant see Hollins released either. He came back after injury and played in the SB scoring a TD.
WR 5 Pop - I suppose Pop could be gone. It seemed that he had a rough 2025 in McDaniels new offense.

Are you suggesting that Douglas is more valuable to the 2026 patriots than Boutte? If so, I strongly disagree.

And, sure, I understand a young player being upset that we drafted Doubs and were planning to add Brown. Surely, Boutte thinks that he is arguably as good and as valuable to the patriots as Doubs.

That being said, there is no reason to believe that Boutte wouldn't be an asset to the 2026 patriots.

I've been talking about the state of the wr room now. And right now they need Boutte.
"Howevah", if Pop, Williams and /or Chism all show major progress over the rest of preseason, that could be a different story.
They look good but I need to see more.
Williams is the most important of those 3 since he would more of the same routes as Boutte than both Pop and Chism.
The closer we get to regular season, the more Boutte fetches in a trade to a team that loses a key receiver over the next month.
It will all sort itself out. The wr room is so intensely competitive its gonna make everybody improve. So maybe later in August, one of the top 6 wrs gets moved.
The wild card is Williams surpassing Boutte. Otherwise you have Brown, Doubs, Boutte as your 3 who play most of the snaps and Williams subbing in.
We are a worse team without Boutte up until the day Williams surpasses him.

Boutte is not one of your top two best outside WR'S, that's Brown and Doubs.

He's also not better than Douglas or Chism in the slot.

So he's getting a lot of respect from the coaches in camp running with the ones, but he's not part of the best 3 WR group.

He's maybe the 3rd best outside WR, with a much faster potentially better Williams nipping at his heels.
This is wrong. The best 3 WRs are Brown, Doubs, and Boutte. Every WR runs from the slot. The slot is not exclusive to short passes over the middle. One of the 3 will align in the slot and who it is will vary.
A guy like Douglass may come in on 3rd and 4-6. We threw 26 passes last year on 3rd and 4- 6.
Open your mind and learn about the game.
