It's a mix of big games and small games. But if you remove the Buffalo games, which Gronkowski seemingly always gets up for, it's more small than big.

Hernandez was an important piece to the success of our offense and really impacted Gronk specifically. Replacing a player like him is hard as there almost isn't another TE in the league with his unique skill set. I fully expect our offense to undergo another paradigm shift.

Not really. This year he put up 146 and 137 against Indy and STL and came up small against Baltimore and Denver. Really it's been more 50-50 than anything.

I wouldnt read crap into that. BB always has a different game plan for who they are playing. Whoever he thinks are the bigger mismatches are going to be the players featured.

Gronk will be fine without Hernandez and so will the offense. Hernandez didn't look so great without Gronk. Don't get me wrong, I would rather have both, but it's not meant to be. What's a fan to do? :confused2:

I think Gronk will be fine without Hernandez but i do think the absence of Aaron will hurt Gronk. Now teams wont have to worry about both TE and the Pats wont be able to run their 2 TE formations as effectively

Last season we were missing Hernandez for the first half of the season.
The moment we got him back we lost Gronk for the second half of the season.

Last season we were the record breaking, third highest scoring offense in the history of the NFL, and only came up a few points short of #2.

The sky is not falling.

It sucks, but we'll be fine.

If you pro-rate those 10 games to a 16-game season, you get 75 catches, 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. Sure, I'll take it.

Even if you remove the Buffalo games, it prorates out to 75 catches, 1,216 yards, and 13 touchdowns.

The real issue is that sample size is too small to conclude much, but there's no cause whatsoever to be even a little bit alarmed with those numbers, no matter how you slice them.

The fascination with offensive stats is making some Pats fans like Colts fans of a decade ago.

I don't care if Gronk has 3 catches in a game. Maybe he blocks for some bonecrushing Ridley runs and we win.

Then I say "Great game Team, way to do your job Gronk"

Nothing like taking a very, very small sample of games then strip away the good games to draw a useless conclusion.

Several things:

• Hernandez missed the early part of the 2012 season. Gronk wasn't 100% at that point. Hernandez was there in the Tennessee game and Gronk had a pedestrian 6 catches for 60 yards and one TD. Against Seattle, he had 6 catches for 61 yards and no TDs. Against Miami, he had 2 catches for 42 yards and TD (he broke his arm at the end of the game in garbage time). Hernandez played in all those games. I will argue there was little difference in Gronk with or without Hernandez last year. Gronk was inconsistent last year.
• In 2011, the Pats beat Oakland 31-19. So if Gronk was neutralized being a decoy, so be it as long as the Pats win and win big. In fact, the Raiders tried to ground Brady in that game and the Pats decided to exploit their bad run defense to the tune of 183 yards and 2 TDs on the ground.
• Again, why take away the Buffalo games? They count.
• The Arizona game, he should have had one more TD and about 30 more yards but it was called back on a very questionable offensive pass interference call.

I was too lazy to do the math myself, thank you for putting in the effort! I was looking at the data and thinking, "I bet added up those don't look so bad..." As it turns out, they add up to one of the greatest TE seasons of all time. I think Gronk will be fine once healthy.

Aaron was a huge piece to our offense just as Rob is.

He was a great mismatch who could get yards after the catch...fast.

I think we have a smart offense (coaching included) ...we really need a suffocating/shut-down defense
