Revisionist history.
BB didn’t give Brady a shot. BB the GM signed Bledsoe to a 10 year $100m contract making him the highest paid QB in NFL, locking our fate to Bledsoe’s performance.
BB was bailed out after Bledsoe got injured. If Bledsoe hadn’t gotten injured, Patriots might well have had a losing season, BB might have been booted, and next HC might have jettisoned Brady like e.g. Chargers lost Brees before they knew what they had and Brady might have had that career somewhere else.
BB got lucky that Bledsoe had that injury, Tom got thrust into the role, proved himself capable to the extent we had a fairy tale SB run with Brady leading an iconic game winning FG drive with a minute left and giving BB enough justification to trade away Bledsoe’s 10 year $100m contract to the Bills for first round pick in return.
BB got lucky, plain and simple. He picked Brady in 6th round, THEN re-signed his franchise QB for a mega deal, then had a catastrophic injury to the said franchise QB and the discovered he had the greatest NFL player in history in that 6th round pick a year earlier.
