What exactly did he screw up ? If there was a move they really wanted to make they could have pulled the Gilmore restructure lever at any point since by now this kind of restructures are automatic.

I don't think they would have offered a lot more to keep Allen or to get Cook. The offense will change how it is run and if they make the right moves that is maybe a better thing than trying to recreate something with a lesser version of Gronk.

It is kinda surprising to me that people still think that Caserio, BB & co don't think ahead in situations like that.

I don't see how any of this is connected. They just needed to pull the Gilmore restructure button at any point to create a somewhat similar amount of cap space. FA wasn't affected by that at all.

Glad he could walk away pretty healthy. He took a beating in college and pros. One of the greatest ever.

Bumming, I really thought he'd come back for one more year.

There would be no way. He wouldn't be able to play another down without having to be on restrictions and Belichick wouldn't allow him to sit out three quarters of the season. Unfortunately Gronk used every last ounce of strength and stamina to play in the playoffs. That was it, sadly.
