The worse thing the NFL could do is threaten not to renew the next contract when it comes up. But everyone knows the NFL will sell their package to the highest bidder. They are not going to leave millions and millions of dollars on the table because some reporter asked Gronkowski about Hernandez.

You do not think the threat initself is enough to get CBS to squash reporters asking questions the NFL would rather not be asked?

And do you think the difference between the bids is millions of dollars?

The truth is out there, open your mind and see that executives can pressure to achieve what they wish to achieve and if that is tell CBS to squash questions about XYZ, then that is what will happen.

The NFL absolutely can revoke access from individual reporters/journalists who don't 'play ball'. I'd be very surprised if they did over something like this, but they're under no obligation to grant access to anyone.

This is exactly why you see so many puff pieces in the media, whether it be relating to politics, entertainment, sports, or anything else. Because if you really piss someone off, they'll usually stop talking to you.

Actually, it's probably more like hundreds of millions of dollars. ABC/ESPN has an NFL deal. NBC has an NFL deal. FOX has an NFL deal. So exactly who is going to compete against CBS for their AFC package and offer anywhere near as much money? TNT? Telemundo?

I think a lot of people need to get a grip on reality. The NFL is a very powerful sports league, but they're not God. People saying they can force CBS News not to talk about Aaron Hernandez reminds me of the idiots saying that (I swear I am not making this up) Bob Kraft and Roger Goodell would pressure Hernandez's lawyers to accept any plea deal that comes along to save the league any embarrassment from a trial.

I was saying the same thing earlier, but now I'm not so sure. The NFL issues media passes to organizations, who assign reporters to cover the event. I'm honestly not sure they can, for example, say to the Boston Globe "we're issuing you 3 passes, but you can't give one to Shank Shaugnessey."

Of course, if they were that adamant against Shank then they could just choose not to give the Globe any credentials, but that would be a very unwise course of action.
