Gronk: arm injury

It's not so much of a complaint as an observation. Obviously it would have been better if Gronknowski wasn't in on that play. Sometimes, freaky &*%! happens.

It was a PAT. It's not as if he got hurt on a 50 yard bomb. Gronk was out for all but one play of th final drive. Are you unfamiliar with how teams staff their FG/PAT kicking squads?

Damnable, now they are saying 4-8 weeks.

That seems to be limited to our pal Prentice and his crack medical sources and folks parroting him. Most of the guys (Rap, Howe, Breer who like most nationals is very well Rosenhaus connected, and Giardi who is very well player connected and had the post op spin) are hearing through various sources that it was 4-6 and the procedure went very well so post procedure the short end of the prognosis is looking good.

Copout? Hardly. An answer to the question.

Fact remains that if Gronkowski had been done for the day he wouldn't have broken his arm on that play. Freak or not, that's the fact.

If he hadn't showed up for the game at all, then he'd still be healthy. That's a fact. I guess he should have stayed home.

Take it for what it's worth but Schefter is reporting "maybe a few weeks".

Saw that on ESPN too, for whatever it's worth. I think we'll see him back on the early side of all of the projections that we've seen so far.

So if Gronk was taken out for the play and his replacement failed to block the defense and the kicker ended up breaking his leg what would you have said then?

"They shouldn't have been kicking the PAT at that point. They should just have taken a knee."

You're apparently trying to say that there was no way someone else could have subbed for him on that play, which is obviously wrong. As we'll see for the next 4-8 weeks.

No, at the start of the game the score was 0-0. Gronkowski broke his arm when the Pats were up 34 points.

I agree man, I'll take Schefters word over any other reporter out there.

Gronk and Zo have been wiping the floor with Breer's bleating on the subject to the point he's given up. There are only so many players available who can play efficiently on the PAT. Our depleated OL further limited alternate options, we already had guys subbing for 2 interior linemen who regularly play on the unit, none of which could have filled in well enough for Gronk that had Gostkowski gotten flattened by an irate Colt and injured his leg...well, we all know those who are never happy would have been lambasting him for replacing Gronk with some stiff and costing Ghost for who knows how long...

Freaky stuff happens all game long all over the field. It's football and the guys on the field are all football players. Can't bubble wrap your best players. SD tried that to no avail with Classy for years...

Come on. This is just asinine.

I see why you don't try humour more often in your posts. That's smart of you.

I wasn't attempting humor. I was highlighting the stupidity of the complaints. Any humor in the post is just secondary.

At the risk of being called a Sally Sunshine, Gronk has been banged up all year with leg/hip/back issues and chances are that he was going to keep playing game days despite missing practices, and keep being on the "probable" list all of the time (and for REAL reasons). Now we are without him, but have a full 3 game lead in the division. Meaning, we damn well ought to be able to win the division and thus make the playoffs anyway.

Then... we get Gronk back at 100%, maybe more healthy than he would have been otherwise, in time for a home playoff game.

The short term pain may prove a benefit in winning when it really counts.

My thoughts exactly. We should get a new shiny Gronk in much better shape than we've had.

No, what's asisnine is to babble about being familiary "with how teams staff their FG/PAT kicking squads." That's asisine. Obviously someone else could have been in then.

I caught some of that today. Breer was just chasing his tail, which he always does if he can't attribute his opinions to some "GM buddy" in the NFL. It's gotten so I just can't take him seriously enough to be PO'd by what he says anymore.

This guy didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night...but he has a little backgound on ST duties and teamates with broken forearms... Probably how he landed a chat on ESPN.

Jason, you always leave your starters in on the P.A.T., even on the field-goal block team. When I was playing defense and we were blowing out an opponent, you were told, "You're out of the game now, Tedy, but you're still on the field goal block team." It's just the way it is in football. The forearm injury to Gronkowski is unfortunate. The projected time for him to miss is 4-to-6 weeks, per some reports. From my experience, it can be significantly less. Mike Vrabel broke his forearm one year. After surgery, they put in one plate and 11 screws. Vrabel missed two games. I know Gronkowski is tough, but Mike Vrabel's toughness was legendary. So it all depends on the player. I would doubt that Gronkowski is out the full six weeks.
