Greg Bedard seems to think the Pats may be making a blockbuster trade soon

A move up to #2 makes total sense if they think with strong conviction that Hunter or Carter are cornerstone players and don't feel similarly about anyone else. The lack of cornerstone players is FAR AND AWAY the biggest need area for us, above any positional weakness.

If Bedard isn't full of ****, I'd say it's for a WR. I don't think it's for AJ Brown, but probably for a lessor known WR like Chris Olave. Too much money has been allocated to defense. A trade for a WR would signal that Vrabel isn't messing around. The 4th pick would then be used to take a T.
Maybe swap 4 for 9 + Olave?

we get a wr, they are assured a QB...

On his podcast yesterday:

“A new regime gets a draft pick, they really like him, they say this guy’s expendable in the last year of his contract. The Patriots still have room to do that.”

Not sure if it’s related, but if so then we should be looking at guys that aren’t obvious trade candidates yet but could be replaced in the draft.
Jakobi Meyers is the first name that popped into my head.

So the Browns are taking Sanders and trading us Deshaun Watson?

I think to move from 4 to 2
It would take 4, 38 and next years 2nd rounder

But we are talking about timid Elliot Wolf. Completely out of character

I agree that people talk to Bedard. In fact, several journalists are clearly being fed information -- a complete contrast to the Fortress Foxboro Belichick years. The question I have is: who are the sources of those stories and what's their interest?

If, like me, you think that Eliot Wolf is obviously incompetent and should have been shown the door with Mayo, AVP and Covington, you have to wonder how he's survived. By managing upwards and pushing his side of the story to local reporters?

Bedard and Guregian both reported that they'd been told that Vrabel and his coaching team wanted to clear out Joe Milton. So Wolf doesn't bear responsibility for what looks like a very bad trade.

Similarly, we have had several "don't blame the '24 draft, blame the coaching" stories and several "they were working on a big trade last year but couldn't pull it off because no one wanted to come to the Patriots" .

I wouldn't be surprised if this were another example of Wolf's CYA information management.

Take this for what it worth, but when someone on Twitter asked Bedard that since he has been alluding to the Patriots making a blockbuster trade, was he speculating or does he know they are in the market for a big time trade, Bedard responded "I know".

I mean it could be nothing. It could be the Pats are trying desperately and will be rebuffed at every attempt. But let the speculation begin what the trade might be.

The words "Blockbuster Trade" and "Jakobi Meyers" should never be in the same sentence.
In blockbuster move, the New England Patriots deal a 6th round pick and a conditional future 5th rounder for Jakobi Meyers....

How about the #4 pick and a second round pick for Joe Alt. The Chargers need defensive tackles and Harbaugh loves Graham.

I’m dreaming… I know.

How about 4 for Marvin Harrison JR or Malik Nabors?

Cleveland would be stupid to pass on Hunter even for 2 extra high 2nd rounders.
They will alienate their fans if they pass on Hunter.
Would absolutely do this trade if I am pats

So you think they’re going to do it then? This would fit right in with how the brown stains have run things the past oh….forever? Right on par with sex offender Watson’s contract…

"Blockbuster trade" needs to be defined as that term has been really overused by the media. We haven't seen a "blockbuster trade" since Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis. Stafford for Goff is about as close as it gets.
Would moving down from #4 overall to the second round for future compensation, like a couple of 2026 picks, qualify?

Asking for a friend named wolf…
