After a largely unsuccessful one-year experiment, replay review of pass interference will not return to the NFL in 2020.

Competition Committee Chairman Rich McKay said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that the rule allowing the league office to use replay to review pass interference was passed for one year only, and there is so little support for passing it for another year this year, that no one is even going to bother bringing it to a vote.

“We’re not going to vote on, because nobody is putting forward, the OPI/DPI review again. So that dies a natural death,” McKay said.

Wonder what New Orleans thinks about that?

The only upside to this is now we only get to complain about the egregious calls/non-calls, instead of getting to complain about the egregious reviews.

But we can still complain about all other things, right? Because if not, then what's the point?

(Without any forethought, I've somehow created a post that suits every single emoji. This... shall be my masterpiece.)

This. Nothing really changes for the better or worse.

It was largely ineffective, but I personally didn't enjoy my viewing any less because it was there. So this gets a big, "Meh, whatever, sounds good" from me.

more proof that squirrels are running the rules committee...

Even if you like instant replay, which nobody should, it was never a good idea to have "How much contact is too much contact?" be reviewable.

Now, if you want to tell me that a league using replay has found a way to adequately word a "What the hell was that official thinking, making such on obviously blown call at this critical juncture?" general overrule, I'm willing to take a look at that.

What the hell are the guys on Park Avenue going to tell their bookies now?

The game will now be sped back up as we won’t be halted by long PI reviews. That’s a plus.

Hopefully in a few years we will hear about the nfl going back to the two team BYE. One team BYE is ridiculous considering a team could go 13-3 and not be rewarded.

I would too, but the NFL was more worried about making the refs look bad than they were getting it right, IMO.

Sorry, but it's going in the opposite direction. They're trying to get to 8 playoff teams, which would mean NO byes.

But less beer and bathroom breaks. :(

So you're OK with how the refs shafted N'Keal Harry out of a TD last year?

I like how you worked the word "piss" into a six word sentence without even using the word. That's feckin' genius. :thaman:

I don't think the reviews were that long. 99% weren't overturned so they just need to avoid those Saints/Rams moments.

Problem was, the NFL outed itself as having at the very least desired outcomes if not outright fixing. They couldn’t exacerbate the problem by having officials make the wrong call even after it being reviewed.

Now, PI can be used as the tool it was always supposed to be. Bad for the sport, great for the leagues ability to semi control games.

People acted like Rams Saints was a common occurrence.

Calls that blatant are not the norm
