Great deal or a scam?

Ok, exploring the yoonew.com site more in depth, it looks kind of like Ticket Reserve, but instead of just buying the option to buy tickets at face value, you bid on a "contract", which becomes a ticket if your team wins. And I see where my dad got that price- there are some Pats contracts being sold for a little more than 2.4K. They say you don't have to pay anything more for the eventual ticket if your team wins. For the Pats it seems to come out even, but the Giants and Packers contracts are going for 1K and 2.2K respectively. I think, in theory, I could have gotten a great deal, like, months ago if I'd gotten Pats contracts then. A month ago it was 1.4K, and I'd basically be guaranteed a ticket. Do I have any of this wrong? Thanks, guys, for your help again!

You are right in your assumptions...... Ask your dad to use a credit card to pay and before you take the final step, take a print out of all their Ts & Cs and read it carefully. You'll never know if there are any "hidden" costs until your read all the rules (TWICE)

This is much WORSE. You'd much rather have the ticket price NOT included in the contract price. The way younew does it, you're risking not only the option price but also the ticket price. That's a rip off.

With ticketreserve you only have to pay the ticket's face value IF your option succeeds.

Patriots options (or "fan forwards" as they are called on ticket reserve) are currently going for about $1600. That's a much better deal than paying $2300 for a contract on yoonew, because you only have to pony up the $700 if you win.

Damn, this thread got back on track too quickly. I wanted more insane rants about old people.

Um, ok, that went places I wasn't expecting. My dad might get unreasonable about good looking deals, but he isn't careless with his money. He'll only buy the tickets if he can afford them, and let's just say he will have no trouble with that. At all.

I just wasn't sure about the site, and whether or not the deal was too good to be true. I finally googled yoonew, and found this forbes article: http://www.forbes.com/2005/12/21/yoonew-ticketmaster-tickets-cx_bn_1222yoonew.html
(Sorry, I don't know how to link.) It looks legit to me, but I don't know much about it. Can anyone help? Without worrying about whether Dad can afford his meds?

NEPatriot had no business commenting on your father or his finances. I commend you for not going off on him.

He has been privately been told to knock it off.

Thanks, PATSNUT. Very much appreciated. And thanks to everyone who pointed out the ridiculous assumptions being made- no one knows our business like that. Just cause someone is spoiling for a fight is no reason to give it them. :violent:

So the moral is that yoonew would have been a great deal earlier in the season. Guess I'll tell my dad to look into it earlier next year. If only he was big into college basketball- looks like Final Four tickets are up at their site now. Oh well. Thanks for all your help everyone!

Note that the market has already opened for super bowl 43 tickets on ticketreserve. If you purchased one on the opening, it was about $292. Now they are up to about $500.

okay - first let me say this to the football gods - NO JINX, NO JINX, NO JINX!!

I bought Superbowl tickets about a month ago on Razorgator. They are for $2,900 each (the list was about $2500, but none of the sites advertise the little 10-15% fee they add on to the advertiesed price) and are supposed to be upper deck, endzone to 20 yd. line. As of yesterday these same tickets are going for $1,000 more each. Don't know if prices are coming down or not. I have gone to all 3 of the recent Superbowls and always buy from a well known site, and pay through the nose for my troubles, but I have always received legit tickets. There were lots of problems in Jax with fake tickets. All of the reputable sites have about the same prices (maybe differ a few hundred dollars). I would be suspicious of a site selling for a lot less. Why would they when the demand is so high, they can get what others are asking?

Probably depends on who wins on Sunday. Cowboys Chargers would have been a very difficult ticket. Patriots Giants will be easier. If the Packers win on Sunday, there will probably be a spike in ticket prices, but it will normalize.

Yoonew's site used to be so simple and basic like Ticket Reserve. They've really screwed it up big time.

I think it's cause there are more options on yoonew's site. I've been looking into it more now, and been comparing the offerings. With Ticket Reserve you can buy tickets, but they're only for the upper deck end zone. Yoonew offers all the different sections, though price goes up for better seats. I think that makes it inherently more complicated. I had no idea there were so many ways to get tickets!
