He absolutely was one of those kids you put in a trash can or hid his clothes while he was in the shower after gym. No question.

Simply not true. As Wozzy has explained so eloquently, Wolf is the penultimate APHA MALE, THE BIG DOG in any room he’s in. Came to New England, promptly put Belichick in the corner and told him to STFU, and then made every decision and blamed them all on Bill. Now he’s bossing Vrabel like he’s a canine corso and Vrabs just a little lap dog.

I haven't read Wozzy saying that but if he did it would surprise me.

Oh yes, Wozzy has told me numerous times that Wolf was Jonathan’s boy, and he was responsible for Belichick’s bad drafts. He did Bill dirty in a behind the scenes power play. I exaggerated just a teensy tiny bit about the Canine Corso, but that’s just a little fib. He’s not actually a canine corso.

I am a grumpy old bastard, you may have noticed. I am also a retired teacher who was a pretty tough grader.

I have to give it an A, maybe an A-, but I really don't see how anybody can complain very much about it. I understand we probably overreached a little in historical terms with the fourth pick, but the lack of a decent O-line/LT has gone on for far too long, and to have neglected providing Drake a decent level of protection going forward, given his apparent importance to our future, would have been pretty much unconscionable.

The main thing is that all the picks made sense in one way or another, and that has not been the case around here for years.

Interesting.

Perfunctory "it's beyond stupid to grade a draft before anyone puts on pads" post here.
I put on pads before posting my grade. I suspect most of us did. Maybe just wrap yourself in an old rug or something.

Seeing the draft finally

I thought it was pretty decent actually, let's hope we can actually hit on some them picks

You make a good point. What I've noticed is all the guys we got are high Character and hungry. Campbell is the day 1 starter.. I'm thinking farmer as well.. Williams I love too.. but he will likely be brung along gradually.. but will be a factor. Henderson guys so impressive he can run between the OTs and catch put the backfield. He's a weapon that will keep defenses off balance.

The character part is what really makes it crazy for me.

Normally you can draft for need or you can draft for value. To do both is pretty special, though maybe it ‘helped’ that we had so many needs lol. But to accomplish those 2 AND not need to chance things on a couple headcases who fell is all the more impressive.

Can’t wait for Felger and Mazz to talk down this draft. They’ll get the vapors over Campbell’s arms and Henderson being drafted in the second round.

Mazz thinks she sucks and blows too..

I appreciate all your research. It helped me find more information on players. I learned more about players all the way through the draft process from just fooling around in the draft forum and then going down the rabbit hole.
Agreed. @manxman2601 was on fire and that whole thread was super fun to follow throughout the draft.

As many others have said, we didn’t try to get cute. We drafted value without obscure picks. I would have preferred we picked up a blocking TE in a supposedly deep TE class, but it wasn’t a need.

We shored up the offense first then got a couple defensive picks that look like they will provide good camp competition and probably make the roster. Then we added more offensive depth. I also like our UDFA picks.
We picked up a UDFA named CJ Dippre a TE out of Alabama
He is a blocking TE and if he makes the team he would be TE3

After years of having to look up the stupid reach in the second round it was delightful to see them stay on script.
No “I’m smarter than all the other GM’s.”
One of the common analyses of the Philadelphia draft approach is that their drafts are very predictable - they take the best player based on the consensus.
It seemed like each round there were a handful of players the fans here wanted and then the Patriots took them.
No mean GM’s laughing at us this year, which was my hope going in.

I’m not at the stage of “guaranteeing 11 wins next year” and I sorta don’t care whether it’s seven or 10 or what.
This still isn’t a Super Bowl team. But if it’s the approach for the next three years we may be seeing the building blocks for the next championship team.
The last 10 years of Belichick’s drafts drove me insane. Often times his UDFA signings were better than his drafts. Granted, there were solid contributors from the 2013-18 drafts that helped the Pats win SBs in 14, 16 & 18, but most of them came prior to 2013.

Homerun draft for me.

Addressed a lot of roster weaknesses with the either the best possible player available or close to it.

Love the first 3 rounds. The injection of speed on offense and talent in the OL was what we needed. Whatever comes after that is a bonus.
