To the Boston Globe:

5 years with the Giants and 5 years with the Dolphins for a total of 140 games. Spent 1 season on IR with New England. Considering his contribution to the team, it makes total sense to refer to him primarily as a "former Patriots player."

"former Patriots player Ricky Sanders"
"former Patriots player Duane Thomas"
"former Patriots player Tim Tebow"
"former Patriots player Gerard Phelan"
"former Patriots player Christian Peter"
"former Patriots player Reggie Wayne"
"former Patriots player Ernie Holmes"

"former Lions player George Plimpton"
"former Braves player Babe Ruth"
"former Bruins player Bernie Parent"
"former Celtics player Pete Maravich"
"former Red Sox player Rollie Fingers"
"former Racers player Wayne Gretzky"
"former SuperSonics player Greg Ballard"
"former Grizzlies player Allen Iverson"
"former Falcons player Brett Favre"
"former Blazers player Derek Sanderson"

"former Braves manager Ted Turner"
"former Jets head coach Bill Belichick"
"former Knicks president and general manager Red Auerbach"

"former news publication The Boston Globe"

Did Shank write that headline? His latest columns have been trying to brainwash Boston sports fans into thinking Boston is still a baseball first town.

Nothing wrong with the story.

Well, at least the Globe hasn't resorted to, "Patriot Fan Arrested in Bank Robbery."

Nothing wrong with the story.

That's right. There is nothing wrong with the STORY. Everyone else here understands that it was the headline that was hilarious.

.

They suck. It will never end. The murderer was on the ****ing morning news here in Denver. Jury selection. He was listed as a Boston Patriot though. **** them all.

There was nothing wrong with the headline, either.

The Globe was not the only one, he was listed as former Patriot Player as well in other local(Herald and Fox) and national news sources as well.. click on the story for salacious details of this fabled franchise.

I can somewhat understand a Boston/New England area publication headlining a story on Allen as 'former Patriot'. That piece of information is very pertinent to their audience, readers who are seeking local news.

As long as the article clearly notes early on that Allen spent the vast majority of his NFL career with the Giants and Dolphins, it is not really a contrived controversy in my opinion.

I would presume that New York area publications similarly have headlines of 'former Giant' and Miami area headlines read 'former Dolphin', which is what one should expect.

What I do have an issue with is when a national publication, reaching out to a national audience makes a similar headline to the Globe's. Perusing through the various national news on Allen I found only one site - BSPN, of course - headlining that "Ex-Patriot Allen gets 6 years for Ponzi scheme". Every other publication from Sporting News to Fox Sports to Yahoo to Reuters to TMZ to USA Today has a headline of 'Ex-NFL CB' or something similar.

The word "Patriots" is clickbait.

When Matt Elam was arrested, I expected the Globe to have the headline "Former New England player arrested". After all, he played a couple games which were played in New England while he was on the Ravens team.

LOL BSPN can always be counted on! Zero credibility. No, nothing-new ownership, management, restructuring, or certainly media-spin or (lol) company mantra whatever, will ever change that. The only way to stop the ******** is for the organization to go defunct.

Which of course brings to mind the NFL. The other major pro sports leagues do have problems as well, but the NFL is way out in front. They are on a clear path to ruin the sport.
