Giants keep foot on gas pedal...where's the outrage?

Do we really need one of these threads every time there is a blowout in the league? We get it.

This is the first thread about a specific game that happened after the Patriots did... jeeze.

That game is exactly why I don't give a damn if the Pats score 100 points. The game is not over until it's over. No one is going to complain about the Giants running up the score. It's only a problem if the Pats do it. If I'm BB I tell the team F... THEM!! When you go out on the field keep playing until the game is over. If that Patriots/Jets score was reversed, not one mediot or opposing fan would have complained. I don't evenr listen to these clowns anymore.

It's a gr8 point mayo, and the Pats, unlike any other team that I can ever remember, gets every opponent's "A" game every time out.

Recent Superbowl results notwithstanding, the Pats ARE the standard that other teams measure themselves against.

I just think it's a ridiculous double standard. The media complained game after game when the Pats have let an opponent back in the game in the 4th quarter after being up big. They questioned the team early on for not having the killer instinct. They kept asking when the Pats are going to play a "complete" game. And then, when the Pats do, they accuse BB of running up the score, or question why he has his starters in late in the game.

BB has always been consistent in his message: the team is greater than any individual player. You don't let up, you don't take people out, you don't stop giving effort. Because it's not something that you can just turn on and off at will. You train the team to go out every week expecting that the other team will treat this as their "Superbowl" and be gunning for them, and they can't let their guard down. And once they have the opponent down, they can't let up. If the NFL wants to end the game early for mercy purposes, fine. But otherwise, don't fault the team for continuing to play.

Look at Tom Brady's comments today about the upcoming Dolphins game:

"They won a big game yesterday against Seattle, a team we lost to." ... We always talk about championship games, and this is a championship game. You talk about must-win games, they're all must-win games at this point. We've been winning four or five games in a row now, and every game has been important, and as the season goes on, the next game is always more important than the one you just played. I think that's the case this week too."

Brady's been on roll since Seattle - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

You think there's going to be any complacency about the Dolphin's game? Or any mercy if the Pats get up big?

Since points are part of the playoff tiebreaker rules, I've never understood how it could be controversial to try to score more points.

The Pats have been dropped from the playoffs twice by tiebreakers, so I think BB would be very conscious of the ramifications of the system, as every coach should be.

To be fair, though, in neither case has it reached points scored, because those are something like fifth or sixth on the list of tiebreakers. [In fact, I'm not sure when the last time—if ever—points scored actually mattered.]

Hey, you're only hated on when you're good. And the Pats? They're pretty damned good. Bring on the hate, hatuhs...

I call them Pathaterheads.

At one point it may have been higher on the list but got moved down.

If it's on the list then it's possible and worth looking at.

Neither time was it because of points scored. Points scored is like the 5th or 6th tiebreaker.

Edit: Didn't see that CT said the same thing.

Are we gonna cry about the Giants all the time?

Time to exercise the ignore thread feature...

I know I'd be really pissed if the Pats were kicked out of the playoffs because they decided to back off during blowouts.

Then we'd be hearing just the opposite...if they had only scored a few more points ! BB really blew it !

Giants up 38-10, throwing the ball and going for a TD on 4th and goal. Where's the outrage? Will there be a tweet from the Bills beat writer calling Coughlin a prick, hoping someone gets injured?

Nope. Only for the Pats. Belichick is the evil anti-Christ of the league. 24\7 controversy when they do the exact same thing as other teams good enough to be in that situation.

Exactly my thoughts. Haters will hate. It never stopped BB for doing what he feels is right for Pats regardless of what every/anyone thinks.

Yes, but please be sure to loudly and publicly announce to everyone that you plan on ignoring them.

We get it, you are too cool for this thread.

I didn't get to watch the game and I am glad to add another "talking point" to rebut my non-Patriot friends when they make one of their inevitable karma and running up the score comments.

Oh.. and the guys on WEEI are having fun at this very moment with this very topic.

Giants' Andre Brown done for the year with broken fibula | NJ.com

No way this is karma right?,
MEDIAS SPIN:
The Giants kept him on the field so that he can play and get his performance bonus and thus earn enough money to feed his family sand send his kids to school so that they can learn good things and one day lead this country

After GRONKS injury
MEDIAS SPIN:
The PATS robbed the GRONK family of their thanksgiving Turkey by playing GRONK late in the game, if he hadn't been there he wouldnt be injured and thus would play in the jets game and earn enough money to buy a turkey to feed his family

I could be wrong, but I don't remember there being much if any talk about the Patriots running up the score until spygate changed the team's basic narrative. After that, continuing to cast the Pats as the sports-movie villains was just to expedient to deviate from.

And since in sports the conventional wisdom is defined by determinism, the fact that the Patriots suffered a huge upset and failed to go 19-0, of course everything they did during that season simply has to have been wrong. Meanwhile, Couglin goes from having the reputation as an unnecessarily rigid authoritarian to a tough-but-fair coach who can instill discipline because he's won his team's respect.

On a smaller scale, the deterministic fallacy explains why nobody noticed the Giants attempt to run up the score because it didn't work -- they didn't actually manage to score. And since JPP ended up being fine, and didn't even leave the game, nobody's going to talk about it.

guys i'm pretty sure everyone's just endlessly and tremendously frustrated that no other team is good enough to be able to run up the score like the pats do

And this is exactly why there are about 1 in 100 sports fans that really understand how things work. One team wins, the other team loses. Many times it is decided by a few plays or a lucky bounce. In basketball, the difference between a shot going in or going "in and out" at the buzzer changes the entire perspective of the other 48 minutes that played, casting the winning team in a basking glow as winners and the losing team as losers. This is why people don't understand why Brady and Belichick are so good. They are both completely married to percentages and risk/reward. They don't always work, but they work more often than other than the philosophy of other teams.

Honestly, who gives a rat's ***.... I only hope we continue to shove points down opponents throats. Let them all b1tch and whine. :singing:

Peter King on it

It's a little different. Belichick's done this often over the years. You need more than one hand to count the times Tom Brady's been in a total blowout in the middle of the fourth quarter. But Coughlin had a reason, I believe. His offense had been struggling for four weeks, and he has every right to use the game to do what he can to make sure his team is back on track for the stretch run. People wouldn't be killing Belichick if it were a one-time occurrence. Obviously, it's not.
