Garcia Update

As PFT wrote earlier today, the pats are getting an infusion of young talent for this year - 2 first rounders, 2 second rounders from 2018 draft and 2 [edit: third] rounders from last year’s draft (rivers and garcia).

Patriots have big influx of young talent coming in 2018

Garcia and Rivers were third rounders. But youth is exactly what this teem needed. If we can bring in some speed as well, we're good.

Thanks for the correction

Even without the medical set back I'm not ready to hand a starting position to a 3rd pick in his second year.

Glad to hear he's healthy but if you can find veteran via trade or you can draft someone with more upside than a 3rd rder you do it.

I disagree with the idea that his round has any connection to his upside. Garcia is extremely athletic and he had outstanding tape. He's from a smaller school, but he handled top competition with ease. I get that we all want fewer question marks at tackle, but Cannon and Waddle are solid starters in the meantime.

"He was below 280 (pounds) in the spring and was below 290 at one point in the fall, so I'm not sure how much weight he can actually carry." -- Scout for NFC team

There was a poster on this site that stated that his wife would offer free help and advice pertaining to gaining weight.

The draft will tell us a lot about how the team feels about Garcia’s progress.

Even if the coaches (Scar) feel that Garcia is on track to potentially become the starting LT for 2018, I don't think that eliminates all possibility of the Pats spending a draft pick for an OT and/or one for an OG - even a relatively early pick.

Garcia was the fifth tackle taken in the 2017 draft. He was not one of the first-round left tackles that Belichick talks about.
He was a development project given the uncertainty around Solder - someone who explicitly needed time with Dante. Instead he missed the entire season and lost 40 pounds. He can be in perfect health and still not be a solid option to protect Brady.
We'd all love it if Garcia starts week one. The Patriots cannot plan on that.

Perhaps. But if no OL are taken in the first two rounds, then that will speak volumes.

Let's goooooooo!!!!! I hope we don't waste a pick on an OT in the first 2 rounds....QB too....just defense defense defense....

Well, mostly what it will mean is that there was no OL on the board who was clearly the best prospect available by a significant margin when the Pats were on the clock.

Every year, as the draft grows closer, the fan base' memory of the BPA principle fades as it is pushed out by a misplaced and uninformed focus on "needs."

This news is huge.

I’d pass on these B/B+ talents at LT in round 1 when there are so many talented LBs, QBs, CBs etc. Garcia v. Croston summer battle with Waddle as the swing tackle. If both kids flop, Waddle it is.

I’ll be surprised if BB chases need in a draft but we’ll find out soon (Drafting studs who fall like Chandler Jones that also fill a need is different obviously).

Pretty much agree with others here. BB shouldn't spend that 23 on an OL unless a significantly better prospect that they rate Garcia is on the board. Say, if McGlinchy falls or they love Kolton.

Otherwise, if a high-ceiling work-in-progress like, say, Orlando Brown drops into 2 and he's BPA, grab him.

Very good news if Garcia's ready to go. Still not sleeping on Jelks, either.

Protecting Brady and the QBOTF is pretty important. It doesn't matter how good the D is if Brady is not upright and having time to throw
