Everyone wants to be BB in Denver taking an intentional safety, but the best they can muster is going for it every 4th down and hoping for the best

The 3 points is clearly more valuable in a low scoring game where points are at a premium, common sense doesn't come into it.

The real problem with analytics in sports is that they’re based on the idea of what things will average out to over a long sample size. But games are actually decided off the small sample size of plays that day. Go for it on all your 4th and manageable situations in the red zone and you’ll likely end up scoring more points over the season, but going 0-3 on a given Sunday might cost you the game.

You have to be able to apply the data to the specific situation.
