FS vs. SS

Box, don't you believe we leave Merriweather alone at FS and get a SS?
In our defense it is left seide or right anyway, but it sounds good.

Meriweather replaced Rodney in the role we mortals call SS. Sanders was the Field Marshall in Centerfield. Macho may or may not be a Bob Sanders, but he is a playmaker who might be a better fit at FS than CB.

Fixed it for you.

So Macho=Bob Sanders?

There was one guy who is a small safety that looks like he could be Sanders-like and that is Delmas. He is smaller than Merriweather but he hits very well.

One of the shorter Safeties who hits well is Emanuel Cook, 5-10 210, mentioned here. Nicknamed the "Hit Man", he's arguably the best tackler among the Safety crop. A good football player, just not sure anymore about his intangibles (maturity, etc.). May still be worth a gamble for BB's packages, especially as a day two pick. Would like to have as many sure tacklers in the secondary as possible.

And you don't necessarily need to have one of each. In late 2007, the Pats used a lot of Meriweather and Sanders as their two true safeties (call them FS if you want) and used Rodney underneath in more of a SS role. It all depends on the offense and the situation. The fact of the matter is, Rodney is no longer equipped to be one of your full-time deep safeties. The Pats may bring him back or bring Tank Williams back to be that underneath guy, but Meriweather is the only true safety right now. The Pats can keep James Sanders, find another like safety in free agency, or go that route in the draft.
