Former Patriot David Andrews Believes Lomu Will Push Campbell For Starting Role

Opening the season vs Seattle could not have been a worse test for Campblell.

I dont want to hear anymore about his bum knee.
I’d say it’s the best test possible.

The quality of a test is its ability to measure, so a hard test is a good test.

We will know after week 1 whether Lomu is our LTOF.

Agreed.

I disagree here. 1 game will not determine whether Campbell continues to be the LT.

Agreed.

The best thing I see coming out of this is the sense of urgency it's going to create for the camps and preseason. Every returning player is going to remember the ass kicking the Seahawks put on the Patriots in the Super Bowl, and they are going to know just how ready they will need to be to handle the Seahawks in their own house in the opener, as well as what the month of September is going to mean for season hopes.

I personally would keep Campbell at tackle until proven otherwise. I think he would be a fabulous RT.

We can only hope Lomu is a better LT, because then we can move Campbell to LG and upgrade two positions. Only Campbell himself, Eliot Wolf and apologists would be upset.

I'm sure Eliot Wolf " apologists" would be happy you are giving him all the credit for the 25' draft.

Yep. I think the idea of moving him to guard and weakening the tackle position is stupid. They have 2 talented young tackles, keep them both at tackle. It means you don't have to go back to the well at tackle again next year.

If this continues to be true, he won't be our center for long, certainly not in 2027.

This trait is simply NOT acceptable.

Yeah the number of bad snaps from Bradbury last year could likely be counted with one hand.

What I found puzzling is that da Bears traded their 5th-round pick next year for him, yet still drafted Logan Jones with their 2nd-rounder last month... Surprised they didn't take Jake Slaughter if they really had to have a Center that early... Don't know if I just might've waited until closer to the end of TC before dealing Bradbury to them anyway...

We signed Bradbury and also a center in the 3rd rounder. I don't see the issue. Bradbury was to be a 1-year transition, and he was.

The fact that none of 5 or 6 LG options worked out somewhat forced Vrabel to start Wilson at LG instead of being Bradbury's backup.

The situations seem very similar.

That just shows how bad Lowe is.

He looked ok to me when he replaced him during the season... I also thought Vrabel should've replaced Stumpy with Lowe at halftime of the SB, because it would've been metaphysically impossible for him to have been any worse.

The issue is that we don't know how good of an NFL Center Wilson will be; and I don't think trading our only reliable Center before that's even close to being known yet was such a prudent move.

I suspect that the team didn't consider Bradbury a better choice at center than Wilson. The team did get rid of Strange last year to start a rookie Wilson at LG. I would think that Wilson is much more likely to succeed at center this year than at LG last year. And, yes, Brown can be the backup.

Agreed & as we all know Strange was given every opportunity once healthy last offseason to make an impression he was getting routinely beat in camp.. Wilson who was ultimately at C in camp then supplanted him. As you mentioned and Wilson has recently said as much himself he is in his natural position at C. Brown is a solid back up.

Bradbury got traded should tell us all we needed to know..

Agreed about the only thing I could have criticized Vrabel on as a coaching decision last season was allowing Campbell to play.. remember RG3 had the same injury.. and we know what happened..

No Push in the run game from Bradbury.. pass pro was solid..Push in run game as bad as Dorchester traffic.. Especially on 3rd and short.
