think of it as a tug of war

Felger having wRONg Borges on makes him (and the Herald by extension) good by providing a countrpoint to his buffoonery.
there are, obviously, forces encourage borges to write the caliber of articles he puts out. these forces are clearly ok with sloppy research and the proffering of incorrect statistics to support his opinions. these folks think borges has enough power in el globo to "get" them if they point out facts.
so that's a set of accomodating forces pulling borges' work in one direction.
what is needed is a set of forces pulling borges in another direction, toward accurate reporting, appropriate research, and opinions that are based fact, not missatements of fact or twisting of statistics.
BUT, do not assume that these kinds of letters are not read. they are, and the gist of them IS reported to the sports editor. now, people have taken runs at borges before. for two years, no patriots player would speak to him, a retaliation for a nasty article he wrote on la'ffaire timpson.
of course the globe supprted borges to the hilt, because that episode was about his opinions.
if there's gonna be an effort to "do something" about borges, consider this:
1. we CAN get el globo's attention, but it will probably take 2 years of effort to do that.
2. there MUST be a focus on borges' mishandling and downright contempt for facts. anything written about his opinions will only lead el globo's executives to dig in their heels.
