Floyd not working out?

3 mil is a lot for a player that is more then likely going to miss time this season due to suspension

Not if it's $1.5m gtd and $1.5m incentive based.

Edelmans contract is up after 2017. Amendola needs to take a 5mill paycut to stay.
Mitchell is a rookie who was a later round pick and seems injury prone.
There is plenty of need at WR.

I was hoping that they re-sign Floyd and draft Clemson's Mike Williams with a pick from the Jimmy G trade. Love Dola but he's turning 32 and is owed a ton of $$$.

Williams, Floyd, Mitchell, Hogan, and Edelman would give us the best offense we've had since 2007.

Keep the Beast!

At least give him a shot we have nobody like him on our receiving corps. It's low risk, high reward potential. My big worry is he doesn't learn the system, that it will be an Ochocinco type situation. But if he learns the system, he has the talent. If he stays clean, my god imagine how good he will be?!

I like Reiss but in this case he really needs to explain. There is no reason to think another team would give him substantially more than the veteran minimum after he just passed through waivers unclaimed and he's now facing some "time off" from the league. Not to mention the fact, he didn't do much for the Pats in their stretch run. It's the same set of circumstances.

I guess it's always possible now that it's the off season but It gets back to why.

We know the Pats are not going to give Floyd a lot he would be a one year rental who will miss certain time whether its Two or Four games. The Draft is decent for WR's they just have to use the same formula for Mitchell and hope for success. Also I hear they like Devin Lucien who spent a year on our PS going forward.

Wast this obvious from the moment he was deactivated foe the last two games? Sometimes guys click with Brady, others, not. With Floyd, they were hoping there would be immediate chemistry since he came from a similar system with Weiss. Nearly caused two INTs against Houston by running bad routes. It's not that he couldn't make it here, it's just like Reiss says, how much energy and money will you put into this guy when he failed to pass his initial "tryout"?

I am not reading too much into what Reiss says I feel the Patriots and Floyd have an agreement in principle to return he got a free SB Ring on us after all his drama.

Edelmans contract is up after 2017.

Which will probably change some point this 0ff-season. Likely a 2-3 year extension that would lower his hit for this year

Amendola needs to take a 5mill paycut to stay.

He will. He won't get more from another team so he'll take the cut and stay.

Not sure why being a 4th round pick matters. Antonio Brown was a 6th round pick. Not saying Mitchell will be Antonio Brown but later round picks can be good players too. As for him being injury prone, eh, he had 2 injuries this season and 1 of them was a freak injury in the pre-season.

A positive to Bennett cashing in after the Superbowl would be the example it would provide for Floyd.

Spend a year with the Pats, keep your nose clean, and you can cash in big.

A Superbowl win could be an added bonus, but he could still cash in without it.

I think that's the plan.

I don't think it's speculation. This is how Reiss writes when someone hands him something.

He previously thought NE would chase Floyd a little bit but now no longer does ("I now don't see the team extending too far financially..."). And he throws in the bit about Floyd not being able to get on the same page as Brady in practice (which is not stated as speculation and Reiss is generally good about saying when he's speculating).

I think that someone on the team fed Reiss info that the integration of Floyd didn't go as well as the team was hoping and while they are still willing to keep him they are no longer going to chase him even a little bit.

Are we eligible for a comp pick for him?

Floyd did not pass through waivers unclaimed.. The Patriots claimed him. And they claimed him because they had a need due to the fact that Amendola was injured and they only had Edelman and Mitchell healthy.. The other teams didn't want to shell out 1.2M for a player that probably wouldn't see the field for them since he'd have to learn their offense, which usually takes more than 3 weeks..

This has been covered ad nauseum in the numerous threads on this site about Floyd and whether he'd be back..

Anyone thinking that Floyd would do more than he did for the Patriots was smoking crack. He showed potential. His incarceration will end in June, before training camp, so he'll have plenty of time to get up to speed with whomever he signs with.

There are teams like the Giants, Titans, Redskins, Rams and Bengals who could take a flyer on Floyd.

Floyd will only be eligible for a comp pick if he signs a deal that warrants it. If it's league minimum deal, it would be unlikely that the Patriots would get a comp pick for him.. If it's a deal in the 3-5 M range, then the Pats could get a pick..

I think Pats keep him if its around league minimum bucks. I think they'll offer a bit more but not lots more in incentive $. I agree with Reiss that the Pats won't get bid up to keep him.

The fact that his contract is up after this season certainly impacts signing WRs, regardless of hope that he is extended. He is also 31 in May, has had a long injury history and takes a beating.

He will. He won't get more from another team so he'll take the cut and stay.
Do you not see the irony in saying we don't need to worry about WRs because we have a guy who will take 1.5mill because no one else would offer more?
He is also injury prone, and is also 31.

When he was drafted is an indication of what his perceived talent level is. Doesn't mean he is limited to that, but there were many, many 6th round picks who didn't turn into Antonio Brown. The fact is 4th round WRs have a lower success rate, for a reason. Sure they can outplay what people thought of them, but that is the exception not the rule.
And he also tore an ACL in college and missed a full season.

The point is Mitchell has promise, but you don't ignore his position because he was a 4th round rookie who caught 32 passes.

We don't need to sign Floyd and draft a 1. We have many needs greater than WR.

From our perspective sure, but from his and his agent couldn't he find a better opportunity with a chance to be a #2 or even #1? I think Titans are hurting at wide out.
Floyd was released from his team, and no one claimed him. We gave him a shot.
His play on the field has not been good enough to overlook his off the field problems, his upcoming suspension, etc.
No one is giving him top WR money.

Many teams do not fall in love with the WR position. And frankly they shouldn't. Tennessee seems to understand this.
